Theres a huge difference in giving advice and trying to school new hobbyists than the flaming that occurs.
Guy asks a question about his oscar. Chooses to ignore the advice given and houses it in a 50 gal. All of a sudden the pitch forks come out. Guy gets branded... stops posting. I never ever understood this mentality. I think its an ego thing.
The reasons i cant keep those animals is because they can eat me=QUOTE
This made me laugh, funniest post I've seen in a while.
I think if someone has asked for advice then ignored it then ask for help 2 weeks later they deserve a degree of harsh truth given to them. I don't like seeing someone new asking a question like "can I keep an Oscar in a 10G" when they genuinely don't know the answer get hammered, that's when I think ego trips kick in.
.
islandguy11 not trying to start an arguement but i only dont see where
ReApEr666 was advocating against giving advice.
Reapers post :
"This is MFK... quit being female dogs... we are regulated enough as it is. GET OVER IT! Keeping arapima is no different than keeping a betta... a fish in a box is a fish in a box... u cant keep fish 1 way... and condone others for keeping them another way. its all the same. There will be no hobby left if everyone is butt hurt about keeping certain fish. Laws are bad enough already...zoos are getting shut down and there coming after the general public now for keeping certain fish. All you nay sayers are 100% the problem and root of it all. Grow up and get over it.... Most of the larger fish available in the trade are destined for peoples dinner tables. were doing them a favor by letting them live for any period of time. If you keep fish yourself... take a look in the mirror... your no different than anyone else. "
That makes sense. I think allot would have to do with the persons attitude as well.
I think ego kicks in allot on here.
Bans are dangerous. Theres always unintended consequences for everything. Ban something here, legalize some there. It hardly ever turns out how we anticipated. Kind of a butterfly effect

Tbh though I'm confused also: why are we stuck on the banning thing? Seriously, where in this thread has anyone called for any ban of any fish?
I guess we just interpret things differently. It doesnt make sense for us to argue over someone elses comments. I guess tag him and see if thats was he meant.Go back and read all his posts, not just the first one. You'll see he certainly tries to walk both sides, saying on the one hand he's all for education, good advice etc., but if you read between the lines the main gist of his argument is telling us (rather condescendingly) not to scare away new people by telling them the facts (education) about larger, hard-to-care-for fish -- let them find out for themselves (and screw the fish) -- because we need new people in the hobby (lol, fish keeping is one of the biggest, fastest growing hobbies in the world), and if we don't have them (stupid, uneducated newbies), the hobby will disappear for the rest of us. This is simply a ludicrous train of thought. How this got to all other fish in the hobby, plus tigers, wolves etc. I have no idea.
I thought by saying "why are these being sold" it implied they shouldn't be and therefore should be banned. Just my interpretation and could be wrong.
Obviously if there is a minimum tank size required by law or something that wouldn't work as I could imagine the shop saying "you must have a 800G tank for these fish" the reply would be "uh....yes, I have 2 tanks that size". I think the govt would have better things to do than check if it were true and I wouldn't let the seedy casual employee from my LFS into my house to check either!
So how do you stop the sale of something with out banning it ?Tbh though I'm confused also: why are we stuck on the banning thing? Seriously, where in this thread has anyone called for any ban of any fish?
