For your information, they are literally on equal ground. We all walk the same Earth..It only takes the right point of view to see it. Then again you can ignore my view because you won't like it. I think we humans can be defined as parasites, benefiting from the suffering of other creatures, and even our own kind.

Riddle: What is something that has no rights, that you can abuse, or stab or cut or eat, or choke or poke the eyes out as you please?
Whoa, wait a minute. So a human being and a dog(or in this case a fish) are on equal ground? So why stop there? What about an ant or roach? If you have ever stepped on an ant or roach in your lifetime..then you are being a hypocrite right now. Can an ant, roach, fish or dog look into space and see a meteor coming and predict the end of life on Earth? Until then, they are not on the same level as humans...not even close.

I like the colors on the betta!

Stealing is bad...now you must write that 1,000 times on the blackboard and stay after school!

So...you replaced the betta with a plastic fish and doofus didn't notice? Are you sure HE isn't plastic, too??? Hell, he's probably dumb enough to think the fish "plasticized."

"EVERYBODY LOOK MY FISH TURNED TO PLASTIC. ITS A SCIENTIFIC MIRACLE!!"
Only his brain and heart is plastic, the rest of him is human

So instead of talking, one takes action and one night brings the fish a new home, one more size appropriate, and leaves an anonymous note (or not anon?) offering to change the water, and feed it, and leaves some educational literature behind. That could have been done within the first few weeks of watching this horrific animal cruelty unfold, instead of waiting months, and then resorting to stealing it.

R.D. All the options you describe are action. It is just that one needs to make a judgement call which action to take in order to achieve the better outcome. And I agree that perhaps there may have been a different way to act, but there may have been a different outcome as well. Thinking that an alternative action would lead to the same welfare of the fish is a speculation at this point. What we know now is that the fish is safe.

This is just dumb lol....I hope someone steals your lunch because they feel 3 hrs is too long for it to be in the fridge

I couldn't care less....if they think I am abusing the lunch, lol

I really can't believe I'm having to explain this to someone.

You should prepare better then. There are more of us out there...

Although, from my point of view I've understood exactly what you're trying to say, only that I am 3 steps ahead, so we might never meet.

And that is the crux..
They wont be able to answer this.... honestly at least

Interesting, but many cognitively challenged people would not be able to connect giant meteor hurtling towards earth with "we are going to die" yet we should treat them with respect.
I have saved insects from death, and feel no shame.
We know many animals feel pain as well including fish.

I mean at what point do we draw the line on what it's ok to abuse? You drew it up in the form of consciousness , which has so far proven impossible to measure.

Can we really claim either that we know what and how other animals think?

If you think your 3 steps a head then I'm doing a good job.

I picked up an earthworm just the other day that had got lost on the asphalt road and put it back in the grass. And I watch where I step. Believe it or not I avoid stepping on anything that moves. Do you have a problem with that?

Would you feel so strongly if that were a case of stealing an empty notebook? Why is it that people are feeling so fired up about the ownership of a living creature and protect their rights to own them more than the rights of the living creature? The slave master genes?

If you see me keeping my dog at the equivalent conditions of a betta in a dirty, manky cup of water, then my answer is yes. For your disappointment, you wont' see me doing that.

We both know what equal ground means so lets get to the point are you saying a child and an animal have the same rights.

Unfortunately animals are property. You purchase it you own it. Your pet doesnt choose to live with you does it ?
So i have a right to steal your dog ? I gave you the example but you changed it to suit tour needs. Again do i have a right to steal your dog because i dont agree how you are caring for it ?

And please before you go there i am not advocating for animal cruelty

Many of the members on this thread including you that are supporting stealing of the fish were on the other thread advocating for education. Yet we have an example where education could have been applied and it was not....smh

Oh no, I absolutely do! Never claimed to be holier than thou. I will take a life if it protects or benefits me. Many bugs and mammals causes diseases, so I will eradicate them as needed. I will also take a creature's life when I hunt, because I enjoy hunting and because it is a survival skill I prefer to keep honed. However, I eat all my kills and not just leave them to rot. In other words, I don't kill senselessly.
Amen brother, I'll kill to eat, or to get rid of hazardous pests, but I don't kill for the sake of killing, nor do I torment things for entertainment.
