Parrot fish aggressive?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Just for the sake of the argument one could say there's no such thing as a hybrid but simply evolution.
Even though evolution itself is a theory? But I’m pretty sure when Darwin was going around the islands he wasn’t catching birds, breeding them randomly, and then letting them go, then saying “tadaaaaa...evolution!” Lol

LOL, you mean these aren't a natural species? Are you guys high?

This is the Flowerhorn, Blood Parrots, and Other Hybrids section.

You do realize where you are, yes?
No one here cares what your personal philosophy is on hybrids, nor was that part of the OP's discussion.

The fish I showed a pic of isn't deformed, it doesn't have scrunched up organs, nor is it sickly. Hola.
That's exactly why I brought it home. It wasn't your typical BP.

But even it did, again, this is the hybrid section. If it bothers you fellas, don't look. :)
Agreed

It's odd that hybridization or genetic manipulation bothers people more with fish than domesticated animals. I don't get it, but whatever...

The only time I think hybrids make no sense are keepers who "just want to see what it looks like if I cross a jag and dovii" then gets a fish so similiar in appearance its like what's the point? I've seen shovel nose cats crossed with redtail (again, why?) with no discernable characteristics that are attractive. U Tube and message boards are full of crazy mixes, (someone had a female devil paired with a male dovi...fry just looked like wild midas) but there's no hysteria only bragging and people begging for weird fry. I don't get that either.

Say what you will about their appearance their intelligence is remarkable and they're very entertaining fish with varied personalities. My relatives are entertained and amazed every time they see my fish. To each their own. Some fish that keepers go "ga ga" over I say "whats the big deal?" We're all different with different tastes.

If you think that’s crazy, there’s people that are ok with changing the dna of unborn human babies just so they fricken have blue eyes or some other dumb thing.

Wow, that's like one step away from. A flat earther comment.

Either way. To each their own.

Also elitist comments like that is what drives people away from hobbies & communities. If you dont agree with something or you dont have anything constructive to add, why go out of your way into a section you obviously dont like to push your views on people who are most likely to not agree?

Anyhow thanks for the comments and feed back. I'm out

I’m presuming you do know there are different theories of evolution? Darwin just being one of them. And I’m sorry but comparing hybrids to that of evolution? I mean the idea of evolution is natural, and humans breeding animals....don’t think it’s considered “evolution”. Thanks for calling me elite though. Lol

The gist of my post was (and my opinion has not changed since 1st saw them in the early 90s) and now, is to point out that this is not a true species.
I believe some people think this fish just happened somewhere in a remote eden..
No, it was manipulated into being, no differently than balloon goldfish, or goo-fish, and in my book, is no different, kind of like auto tuning someone who can't sing in key.
If you don't care you are buying deformed, scrunched organ pseudo-cichlid no problem.
But if you think its some sort of natural species, think again

You guys are kidding, right? If not my fish world view is shattered -- I thought all Flowerhorns & Parrots were wild caught from Unicorn Lake in the Magic Mountains :(

We people breed for looks not for health or longevity of the fish...That's my problem, not the actual hybridizing or line breeding, etc..In fact, I have hybrids in my own tank. About 7 years ago two groups of my corydoras hybridized even though they had enough males/females in their own groups. I have no problem looking after the offspring....I don't have any moral regrets about that....But I did not breed them further to create a new line of corydoras...and sell them as wild caught from Unicorn Lake in the Magic Mountains :)

I like the faces of the blood parrots and I have seen videos of how intelligent the flowerhorns can be. I personally would not buy them but if you dropped one at my door, I'd look after them as I would after any other animal...... besides hybrid elephants :) I don't think I can handle that....
