No, they just jump a lot when scared. They are a little skittish (from what I've heard)......wasn't aware they were active at night lol.
my axolotl does that sometimes, she likes to go up to the top and gulp air before swimming back down really quickly, creating a splash in the processI also have to sleep at night too. At least they don't jump as much as a hatchet fish. My peacock eel and giant danios already splash enough to make it harder to fall asleep lol
My afer knife does it too but it doesn't cause much of a disturbance.my axolotl does that sometimes, she likes to go up to the top and gulp air before swimming back down really quickly, creating a splash in the process
Also, I haven't seen my zig zag eel in my 20 gallon for about a week.My afer knife does it too but it doesn't cause much of a disturbance.

You can see why they are call the arowana tetra as they have the samr trapdoor style mouth that arowanas have. Never seen any for sale but I’m sure you could get a vendor to keep an eye out for them.
Here’s a thread I found on mfk abou them.
Arowana Tetra (Gnathocharax steindachneri)
For a little fish, these have me intrigued. This is the characteristic that caught my attention:www.monsterfishkeepers.com
It had to have burrowed in the substrate. Odd thing is, that eel has only burrowed once in the entire time I've had it (about half a year). Then again, the 20 gallon I have it in right now does have sand substrate.Uh oh,sounds like it's time for a search party.
