Labled as FX 6 KIller

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Yeah that is so true. But if where to buy a new cannister i would not pay for an fx4/6 or some knockoff. Id buy an 2260. They are pricey but the are reliable like no other filters.

i too cheapskate to buy ehiem as i feel filter is only to move water... what is important is the media it contains

luckily, my filters have not failed me yet....... but i be looking to change filters as i feel i need more flow rate and bigger baskets for media as the fishes get bigger

Thats the fine part with 2260/2262. Its only an big drum you fill with whatever you want. I have an sponge in the bottom then mediabags filled with bioballs then floss ontop. I have roughly 25L of bioballs on each filter.

which got me thinking, i could just use a big barrel drum and a submersible pump at a cheaper cost to achieve the same effect :naughty:

Well that is true. But as i said if i where to buy an new cannister i would go the eheimroute. Ive got 2 fx5 1 fx6 two sunsuns two eheim 2262 and one eheim 2080. But im a big fan of showerfilters. They are cheap to build and you can add heaps of media to them and choose whatever submersible pump you like to feed them. So im switching all my biofiltration over to showerfilters and will only use my cannisters for mechanical filtration. And im slowly putting sumps on my tanks with pipeoverflows. Its an work in progres that takes some time and money

care to define on quality filters?

I always thought a filter main purpose is flow rate so as long as we give a discount on a MIC canister filter flow rate, it should not be that bad right?
I define quality as reliability, but that’s already been said by a couple of other members. I’ve had 3 Sunsun leaked. I’m not trying to bag China made products because I’m a huge fan of Jebaos pumps. Shoot my iPhone is made in China as well and once upon time my family is somewhat made in China. Sunsun is just a garbage filter imo I just tried to avoid that statement

would say sunsun has slowly improve on quality, i have used some things and will agree sometimes is hit and miss... after all they are still considered the lower end range when it comes to quality and pricing.... but for garbage.... there are still many china filter below them..... so a proper term will be almost garbage :evil_lol::evil_lol:

jebao would be higher end, both in terms of pricing and reliability

sadly i have to consider aesthetics too as it was a prerequisite to be able to place my tanks at the car porch.... :grinyes:

I'm just wondering how many people bagging on Sunsun filters in this thread have actually owned a newer model in the last couple of years?

If your opinion is based on personal bad experience with the brand fair enough, but I'd still be curious to know exactly which Sunsun model canister filter(s) you had issues with.

My definition of quality is pretty much the same as anyone else's I assure you -- it's simply my opinion (and of many, many other people around the world) that Sunsun gives way more value for the investment. Let it also be said that despite the experience of some on this thread, hundreds of thousands of people have had Sunsuns filters and had no problems.

If you want to get a FX or Eheim, more power to you and your wallet -- I and many others are likewise happy to get a Sunsun and take the substantial amount of left over money and buy other accessories, nice fish, pay bills etc. Of course we're all free to express our opinions & relate our experiences, but imho there's no reason to outright condemn or vilify either product line/approach.

And from what I understand the HW-5000 is selling like hotcakes, Fluval is going to have up their game as well and/or substantially lower their prices or they will continue losing market share to Sunsun and other SEA brands that are slowly but surely catching up quality-wise.
