Azul grow out thread

Ordered 5 Azul to grow out as my first Cichlas from a small size taken on adults before but never anything under 12”. There currently 2.5” and the only residents of a 600 gallon tank I’ll keep this thread to track progress. They’ve only been in an hour but already zooming about.

I’d be stoked if they were super rare in oz. My Cichla journey is off to a rough start two bass somehow got into the overflow last night and died ?

That’s rough mate. I’m interested in following this also. I’m also jumping on the Cichla train with some azuls arriving next week, my first too.

Nice, I see your from oz too could even be from the same group I noticed they popped up everywhere all at the same time. Ive noticed small Cichla seem a lot more delicate then most cichlids.

Few pics now there starting to settle in super hard to photograph still run the other way when they first see me. The smallest is looking skinny isn’t really taking food. Thinking about adding a couple more to the school.

Yeah I don’t think there would be many Azul breeders in the country. I think I’m getting mine from a breeder, I’ll have a chat to him when I grab them.

What’s the other cichlids have you kept and comparing them to?

The other cichlids I’ve kept to compare too are parachromis, Oscar, snooks, Vieja, amphilophus to me they seem a lot more skittish and less out going at the relevant sizes but in saying that I’ve never grown cichlids out in a 600 gallon before I think it’s contributing to them being skittish.

Have you got any dither fish with them? I’m by no means an expert but something else taking up some of that huge realestate might help them get comfortable?
