Aqueon pro heater 150w not enough for 40 gallon

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I had one more 150W Aqueon pro in my 20 gallon, swapped both, let's see how it works out now.

After doing this my 20 gallon is at 75 (temp went down by 5 degrees) and 40 gallon at 80 (went up by 5-6 degrees) both set to 80.

If you get a heater controller, you can have 2 heaters in the same tank that will turn off and on at the same time.

Thank you for the idea, I don't want to complicate the set up right now, this might end up my temporary set up if I end up moving across the country.

For that kind of an increase you might want a 200w. It wont have to work as hard.
You don't want the heater to struggle and run all day every day. I ran a 200w in my 40 breeder for quite a while. Just switched it to two 100w heaters just because I wanted the single 200w for another tank.

The one I bought is Eheim Jager TruTemp 200W, so I should be good in there. The 150W heater I had was faulty, it couldn't keep 20 gallon warm after I swapped the heaters.

that will be *more* than enough.. as a matter of fact keep a close eye on it for a few days to avoid "cooking" the fish

Agree there, when I had put 150W from another tank, I had that one set to 84 (so almost 20 degrees above room temperature) and theromstat showed 84, so 150 was good enough too.

I do look at thermostat everyday. So far it seems acurate enough.
