From the makers of: "Mr. T, a biography", the Arapaima that went from rags to riches, from storm-drain to palace, from being thought an (male) ugly duckling and turning out to be a beautiful, female swan...

We are proud to present:

"The Pond"

A thriller in the making, another monster project (though mini-sized), the grand final to everything there's ever been said and written about Ponds.

Watch this space and become part of this experience!

Is this a sequel to the other pond story? The one with seagull-eating fish, concrete ponds the size of bungalows, modified tanker trucks for moving 7-foot-long arapaimas and more thrills and chills than the latest in the Avengers franchise?

If so...I'm in!

Or...will this be a stand-alone thriller revolving around a completely different pond?

If so...I'm still in! :)

Arguments erupting already about who is going to do the hard work.
Guess what they agreed on?

Rough Lumber

With a bit of work, turned into acceptable timber and off we go..

Mini Me thought it was a good job to bring out the excavator already.
I have absolutely 200% faith in his capabilities, but politely declined his offer for now.

IMG_1558.jpeg

Meanwhile, the wood work continues and with some determination, we got a first part ready.

IMG_1584.jpeg

This is the basic sketch. All wood except for the roofing, which will be transparent.
Hold your horses.. there's a reason for that! More on that later.
IMG_1565.jpeg

The wood-pile is getting smaller
Dust pile bigger
Movie making is a dirty business

IMG_1571.jpeg

It's all about choosing the right layout
Testing, measuring, measuring, cutting
Remember, measure twice, cut once

IMG_1574.jpeg

Almost there
Did I mention measuring already?
No worries on some small mistakes
It's the backside..The dirty part

The work continues
Lucky that my co-stars left me alone for a bit
Got actually some work done!

IMG_1578.jpeg

Takes a leap of faith to build something and only being able to see the backside, where actually the front has to look good!
Not too bad, bit of cleaning up and then give it some good protection

IMG_1581.jpeg

Well, details aside, here's the overview shot

61502864569__A343CCEB-832E-4B75-9A55-B60BD107C27E.jpeg

And the last one for today. After cleaning up glue and some sanding

IMG_1582.jpeg

Mid support beam temporarily clamped on. It's all straight and square.
Not bad for a first attempt at panel building.

One more panel like this will fit to the left side of the beam and then it's ready to do some on-location work!
The pond will have about 600mm water, the panel height is 640mm
width is 3900mm left to right and going from 660mm deep on the left side to 1500mm deep on the right side.

I'm jealous of your shop. Having a planer is a lifesaver.
