Advice on monster acrylic used tank

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
My 48 inch tall aquarium is 1 inch thick with zero bow although it's only 3 ft by 3ft by 48 tall......I would say no with that damage... if it's dirt cheap I'd consider it for a garage tank filled half way paladarium style.....even half full that a monster lol

you could strengthen the tank if the extra effort is worth it to you.

1) Steel band around base and top. If you did that, you might as well box the 4 vertical corners too.

OR

2) Vertical acrylic rib mid panel to reduce the bow. This rib could be placed on inside or outside of tank depending on your preference but it would spoil the large deep single pane effect.

Yeah I was thinking about this possibility, of course preserving the giant viewing pane is kind of the entire point of the tank haha

A member here had a 8x4x4 tank blow and when I was there the story I got was the water moved the mini van 3 feet. The van was parked 8 feet away and he was sitting in front of it just minutes before.
Not worth it IMO

Unless it's nearly or completely free I wouldn't risk it. At the very least have the current owner do a leak test for you. Fill it and let it sit for a week so you can get a better idea. Could be a cool paludarium

Yeah, not free haha. I'm leaning against it at the moment. Although a tank that size is a dream come true, sometimes you have to let it go. Maybe will ask to repair it and test it
