Salt and clean water. Wouldn’t add the melafix. Don’t think it’s a lost cause.

Thank you will do! Will keep this updated as well. Should I add new salt each time I do water change? At what amount? I’m currently doing 2 tablespoons as Tom has suggested. I’m planning 20 percent water change daily or every other day.
I’d not add anymore salt. Only do a water change if the nitrates exceed 20ppm. Would add 1 tsp per g since more of prevention of disease. What Tom has mentioned is fine. Adding the salt back with a water change is good too. Make sure it’s eating.

I was going to sleep but heard a bunch of splashing downstairs and found the datnoid trying to jump out of the 10 gallon. I had no decor as I didn’t want it getting hurt anymore but seems like it’s not happy in a fully bare bottom, small, aquarium. I also don’t exactly have a perfectly fit lid for the quarantine tank and was using pieces of plastic so decided it would be best to put the datnoid back in the main tank as I didn’t want it jumping out and dying.
I just did a 30 percent water change on the large tank as well so it’s def good parameter wise, but it’s planted and that means I can’t use salt.
Would the datnoid be able to heal on its own without the salt and just clean water? Or should I use quarantine set up?
My last resort option is the move the goldfish I have in my 30 gallon and putting them in a tub/above ground pond temporarily and move the datnoid into the 30 with salt.
Which would be the best option? Please let me know!
also saw some posts where people used Epsom salts. Is this beneficial for the eye wound and is it plant friendly? I’ve usually only used it for constipation and bloat so I’m indifferent at the moment.

The Epsom salt helps to reduce eye swelling. It’s plant friendly.
I’ll add epsom salt then. Will most likely keep the datnoid in the main tank (removed the decor, replacing the heater) and will do small water change everyday now that I am unable to add salt.
Update on the whole situation:
first off, I’ve always considered myself an above average aquarium keeper as I’ve got several years of failures and trial and error in this hobby.
however, today was a very humbling experience and shows just how much I have to learn about this hobby.
After moving the datnoid to the main tank, I decided it would be in the fish’s best interest to add it to my 30 gallon goldfish aquarium. Obviously I removed the goldfish and did a full water change, completely draining the tank and adding some tank water and fresh tap water. Added some established decor (smooth stone and a coco cave from other tanks) and added a heater.
Disaster struck after netting the fish (which got stuck and took forever to come out: datnoid spines are super sharp) and adding her to the tank. I used prime and added established BB so aquarium was cycled and everything parameter wise was fine, but I stupidly forgot to test water temp and thought it was similar to the main heated tank he was in even though more than 75 percent of the water was from my cold tap. Ended up adding the fish and minutes later, it was thrashing and belly up. Realizing the water was too cold I rushed the datnoid back into the main tank and turned the canister filter up, running warm flowing water into the gills. At first it was stiff and barely breathing, then after minutes which felt like hours, it started to gasp, and in half an hour or so it was able to swim upright and normal.
Definitely one of the biggest scares of my life by far (other one was when my lap jumped onto the floor during water change: she’s fine lol). Anyway, added an additional heater and Waited a few hours before adding the datnoid back to the 30 gallon with salt. The datnoid seems fine now but im definitely going to monitor the fish for the next few hours and hopefully it is fine.
Feel super bad since with it’s damaged eye it’s already been through enough and this shock is just making it worse. Overall it’s a tank of a fish only suffering from a few minor scratches on tail and fins which should heal in within a week.
Anyway that’s my experience today. It was traumatic and saddening but at least the fish looks like it should make it. If there’s one lesson: Make sure water temp is the same!

Update for y’all! Super happy, the eye is healing nicely. It’s still a bit cloudy and seems like there is still damage, but compared to the pics above much better. Only issue is it has yet to eat. Ate a couple pellets the second day but afterwards just isn’t interested. Will move the datnoid back to main tank next week once it has healed completely.
