African Biotope - 80 gallon frag

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I like the look of your substrate.
What's the mix?

Just seachem black flourite sand, it’s from clay and has various grain sizes. The color difference is just the lighting that’s predominantly on one side of the tank so it’s a little more natural and there’s darker spots to hide throughout the day

Got some more critters, Captive PBB, African knife, and would like some input on the ID on the last bichir. Should be a retropinnis but that ID is tough for me. Them, Mokes, Palmas all look very similar to me at a young age.

My PBB is repeatedly eating and spitting up broken pellets, they are definitely small enough for him to swallow the pieces but it takes him a very long time. I’ve never had a bichir with this issue, they always just swallow whatever. Should I be concerned?

It’s possible he doesn’t like them. Give it a bit longer.

Probably going to play around with the plant placement a bit and add some more but happy with it at the moment. The schoutedeni is pretty active for being in the tank just a few hours and already seems super intuitive! The African knife hasn’t stopped running around since the plants got put in so I think he’s happy, still waiting for the bichirs to come explore more they like to stay under the wood.
