Hello; Interesting way to twist my comments. The reason I no longer wear a mask is primarily because I got the shots. Secondarily because the virus has an aerosol component over and above the sneeze and cough droplets that were at first thought to be the main problem. Let me be more clear. Being aerosol means the virus is going to stay in the air far longer and drift around. It does not fall out of the air in six or ten feet as earlier thought. An infected person can be shedding virus in the breath twenty feet in front of me and I walk thru that breath. The virus will go thru most masks and can enter my eyes. I think of it like cigarette smoke. Someone can be smoking many feet away and from time to time the smoke will drift my way and I smell it. I figure the virus floats around much like the smoke. How does any of this relate to your decision to not wear a mask now? Of course it needs to be worn properly. Of course some types are better than others. Of course there are no perfect ones.
You don't want to wear a mask. I get it...I don't want to wear one either...nobody wants to wear one. You admit they have some beneficial effect...and yet won't wear one because it's not good enough? Where is the logic in this stance? IMHO the intelligent course is to equip oneself with the best mask that is practical based upon your circumstances and resources, and to wear it correctly.
If my grandchildren's class is invaded by a goblin, what I want...is for the teacher to be a martial arts expert armed with a .44magnum, a broadsword and a killer instinct. I know that won't happen, but if the best defense they have is a bucket of rocks...I want everyone in the class to have a bucket of rocks. I won't be satisfied or happy about it...but I will still take the rocks over some silly "but rocks aren't good enough" nonsense.
Complain? Yes, absolutely...but until something better comes along...grab those rocks!
Many masks can stop or trap the droplets, but the aerosol virus can pass thru pretty much any mask to some extent. A report posted on this thread a while back showed the best to expect was around 80% effective if you started with a decent mask and put panty hose over it.
The circumstances will determine if I wear a mask. Some will depend on the quality of the mask I can get. Some will depend on where I plan to go. I will not wear one when outside. I probably will not wear one going into stores such as Wal-Mart. If I had reason to go into a hospital I might put one on.
I have seen people in a car by them selves with the windows rolled up and wearing a mask. That is their business. Fine with me. I plan to go about my business and hope to be left alone.
But yeah, if someone is coming at me with a weapon to do me harm I will throw a rock at them if a rock is all I have. Thing is I do not expect to accomplish much with the rock.
