I just noticed a worm in my tank today. I was watching a shrimp and noticed the gravel moving. Naturally, I stared at the moving gravel thinking maybe a pest snail is going to pop up. Nope, this brownish-pinkish worm, similar to an earthworm (but like super small) came out. Immediately washed my hands and arm, grabbed the tweezers and tried to pull it out. It kept trying to dig itself back into the gravel as I attempted to grab it. From what I could see it was round, not flat. But it got away behind a huge decoration.
I then went online and started looking up worms in aquarium. Many of the worms discussed were white… this worm I saw was brown. Many site stated these worms usually show up due to over feeding. I know this is not my problem, because I only have 2 rabbit snails that get a tiny piece of blanched veggie every other day. I did add 10 amano shrimp about 5 days ago, to help out with algae. I feed them nothing, because I want them to feed on algae. (They will be food soon anyways). I have NO fish yet.Just the shrimp and snails.
I know there may be dead plant material in the tank from the melting of live plants in the tank.
I am curious if anyone has experienced tiny brownish, pinkish aquatic earthworm like creatures in their substrate. I am afraid to introduce fish if its a type of parasite. And after going online and trying to identify this this booger, I am scared ? to put anything in the tank.
