Nano+ Water Sterilizer - My new toy!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Many thanks, P phreeflow ! Searching just "nano" was way too general; "twinstar" was needed to home in on this gadget. Sadly, the many results that came up steadfastly refuse to actually answer my simple question: what does it do? You get tons of results like these:

"TWINSTAR INHIBITS GREEN ALGAE EFFECTIVELY WITHOUTA HARMFUL INFLUENCE ON AQUARIUM ECOLOGICAL ENVIRONMENT, AND KEEPS AQUARIUM CLEAN BY ELIMINATING SPORES FROM THE INITIAL PROPAGATION."

"The sterilizing factor with microbubbles destroys the cell wall of green algae to inhibit their growth and is non-toxic and harmless to aerobic bacteria. TWINSTAR also promotes better aquatic plant growth by inhibition of green algae on plants."

"TWINSTAR promotes plant growth by up to 50%. It increases the amount of light on the surface of plants by inhibiting algae that grow on them. It also activates trace elements in the water to make it more usable to plants."

But really nothing explaining how this miraculous change is effected. The idea that ozone is being generated seems to explain the effect, as you mentioned. If that is what is happening, why do they refuse to explain it? Do the Big Giant Heads in marketing think that revealing this will somehow alienate the eco-green planted-tank types? Newsflash, guys: people who are already adding umpteen different fertilizers, have bubbling CO2 injectors in them and spend megabucks on exotic light fixtures will jump at the chance to drop a little flying saucer...complete with bubbles!...into their tanks.

They should perhaps consider that crotchety old cynics (I don't actually know any, but I'm pretty sure they are around) get a little distrustful when they feel that important information is being intentionally withheld or concealed.

These things have been around for a long time and used by many planted tank keepers in Asia and all over Europe. I haven’t used it so I can’t say if it works or not but it’s likely using electrolysis to produce o2 and o3. Look up Twinstar Nano….the rest all just clones of this unit
It is a Twinstar Nano. Thanks for this information.

Perhaps they don’t want anyone to steal their ideas?

Lol, there's nothing revolutionary here; no startling new technology or groundbreaking ideas, just a re-packaging of existing tech for the aquarium trade. Any "trade secrets" would be protected by patents. If they don't have patents...it likely means that there is nothing new and unique to patent. Their silence regarding the how's and why's is more likely a matter of simple marketing...they want you to think they have re-discovered the wheel.

We don't get these here in India.
But imo the best way to understand it's working is to somehow trap the bubbles and get the gas checked.
If there's nothing added externally and the device runs purely on electricity, I'd believe that electrolysis is taking place, just not sure "of what " Compound.
The term " Sterilization " Could be indicative of ozone as the gas is used for sterilization of food products ,drinking water, medical equipment etc.

See what happens when I get curious....

Have a read here. So far it is the best info I have found. Most of the reviews out there appear to be from p;aces that sell the device.
https://www.plantedtank.net/threads/twinstar-experiment.590945/

Many of the reviews I found for the Twinstar suggested reader go to Amazon to buy it, so I had a look there as well. I was interested in the reviews of those who had bought one.
https://www.amazon.com/TWINSTAR-66gal-Aquarium-Algae-Inhibition/product-reviews/B00YGPMTA4

There are only 22 global reviews and the average rating was 3.9/5.

Also, the replacement discs ares sold on Amazon and range in price from $65 to $74 depending on the model.
