New tank owner looking to upgrade

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Since I'm here, I'd like to point out that the footprint of the 852 liter wouldn't be quite big enough for an adult 50 cm ghost knife (so maybe it's a good thing that that site was a scam!).
Going by the 6x the length and 1.5x the width rules of thumb from Practical Fishkeeping and Seriously Fish, you'd need a tank of at least 300x75 cm for the knifefish long term (even though the weather loaches I proposed would be fine in the 852).
So your just regurgitating information you found off some site? lol. BGK will not get to 50cm overnight,it will take years after it slows down drastically after 30cm. It's not an active riverine fish anyway.
Those 2 sites are known for outrageous tank sizes.
Extract from PFK. com-

Can I keep knives?

For a fishkeeper liking movement and interaction, knifefish are not the way forward.

Tank size should be chosen according to the size of species kept. For the common Black ghost (Apteronotus albifrons), a fish that can reach 50cm/20”, an aquarium of around 3m/10’ should be considered for a fully grown adult.

If I’m correct and over the threads I have read about on this website, ghost knives need 150-180g? I have no right to comment what tank size they require as I have little knowledge and no experience keeping them, but a 3m long aquarium does seem a little over the top, it’s a larger tank size than require for a silver arowana

To prevent another thread from derailing about tank sizes again lol, staying relevant to the topic I would definitely suggest bichirs. Eel like and predatory as well

With the same criteria as the ghost knifefish needing the 3 meter aquarium, the silver arowana would need a 6 meter one. Since they get to a meter long, 1x6=6 meters.

Having said this, if the 6x rule does not apply to arowanas or knifefish (taking into account what you and Krismo said), shorter tanks could work.

And, so this thread doesn't get derailed, a swamp eel is another choice for an eel-like tankmate. Would enjoy a similar tank size and are peaceful to my knowledge.

Hmmm not trying to cause problems but 20 feet for a silver arowana is a bit too much to handle, that size is probably larger than my own room HAHAHAHA

Really don't want to derail a ghost knife thread but yes, that is a big tank. One of the reasons why 99.9999999999999999999999999999% of people who want a silver arowana physically can't house one, they just don't have the space.

I bought it off a site called croink, not sure if it's legit or not but it was only 70 usd so I figured I'll bite
Damn, you gotta let us know how that works out. I saw a 120 for $63 and thought it was a scam. I don’t see how they could possibly make a profit

I'm sure it was a scam. I thought maybe it was a used one at first, someone just trying to get rid of one. Now I'm in the process of trying to get my money back, but if I can't 70 usd isnt the end of the world.

You could dispute the charges with your bank, I’ve done that when I haven’t received what I paid for.
