So recently I have decided to save up for a bigger tank. It will most likely be a 120cm x 45cm x 45h (65 Gallon) tank that will house some of the fish I already have in my 40 Breeder (planning to put the larger fish like my Angel and Rainbow Shark along with the Albino Senegals in it and rehome smaller fish like the Platies). I was thinking of adding more predatory fish in it. Thought about fish like Rope fish, Delhezi Bichir and Hujeta Gar. I want to make a list of the reccomended fish for that tank size that fit what I want. I have met a good amount of experienced keepers here so thought it would be a good place to ask. Thanks in advance. Hopefully I will have my new tank ready in 4-6 months !

Hujeta gars are to jumpy and need a bigger tank but rope fish and deal would work. I had a pair of dels in a 75g and they had plenty of room
Ah sad to hear...Love that Barracuda/Gar like look. Maybe some other fish that could coexist with the ones you said ?

I had African knife fish with my dels as well as a Ctenopoma. Here are some other ones off the top of my head
Spiny eels (smaller species)
African butterfly fish
Halfbeaks (Idk if they would get eaten but they have the gar shape)
Nandus species
I had a bad experience with Spiny Eels in the past... Basically had one I loved so much but it was so small and never ate eventually starving to death.
I would love to have a group of African Butterflies tho.
Maybe more Angelfish would work ? A small shoal to go alongside my current single one. But I dont know The species of the one I have so it will be hard.

Most of the common angelfish are likely hybrids or the same species, so it probably wouldn’t matter if you are getting from the same place.
African butterflies are cool, they are cousins to arowanas but much smaller.
What did you feed the spiny eel? They really need mostly frozen foods and lots of inverts and meaty foods in their diets. Often they are fed just flakes or pellets and starve. I haven’t had them in years, but the most success I had was when I kept one with pacu - they would get the leftovers from the pacu meals. This was way back when I would make a lot of stupid choices in fishkeeping, and it was far from ideal but at least they got some meat…
Another possibility was internal parasites - these fish are frequently wild caught so there is a good chance of disease.

Probably lost it to parasites. I fed frozen foods such as bloodworms, cyclops and brine shrimp. He was also extremely small and thin so probably parasites. I will try to get similiar looking Angelfish then. So far the reccomendations are African Butterflies and Halfbeaks. What else ?

About the same size tank as I have,i've got 5 bichirs 1x del,2xsen,2xendli (getting some more soon) and a channa gachua in there temporarily.
I’d hope the endli are temporary though…those guys get huge!

Arent Endlis too big since they are a lower jaw species ? Honestly I am looking for something that will spice up the upper levels of the tank since Bichirs are already at the bottom.
