Some good news and fish reccomendations

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
They are killers hejuta's. So platies will be good food. Also i heard that they may get aggresive towards eachother when older.
So in such a small tank it might be better to get one instead of a pair or a group. The same goes for butterfly fish.
You could keep a butterfly and a hejuta do. (i have both aswell and goes perfect aldo my tank has more surface area.)
Hejutas are quite easy to keep when they eat everything but sometimes its very hard to get them to eat anything but life fish. So be prepared to waste a bit of money on lifefood if u get one that doesnt already eat frozenfish.

I also do think that 1,20x 45cm is a bit small for an adult hejuta gar.
Hujeta's are the mellowest fish I've ever owned. I have never observed any aggression between them and other fish. In fact, they are the ones that are the most likely to be bullied. They do have a strong predatory drive though but that stops once they realise they can't swallow whatever they are trying to eat.

One time, I even had a 2 inch kissing gourami bully a 5 inch hujeta.

They shoal more when juvenile and become more solitary as adults, but they do not show aggression towards each other.

The platies will probably get eaten but they'll leave everything else alone.

I've managed to get all of mine to eat pellets within the first week of having them (8 specimens over the span of 4 years). I actually find them to be great teacher fish to get other more picky fish onto pellets.

Noted. I really like predatory fish but because of the tank size seems like I dont have many options. What else would you reccomend apart from the ones already mentioned ?
i would go african tank,
-black knifefish /Xenomystus nigri (aldo u wont see this one at all since it will mostly hide and be active at knight) Other knifefish species get to big, so be sure its not the american variant but the african black one.

-some smaller mastec. species could be fun
-would def get 1 pantadon butterflyfish they are awesome
-rope eels are really cool, they do can get massive around 50cm but that might take around 20 years or so.
-you have some similair hejuta look a likes like : elonesex belizanus aldo hard to find

some smaller pike cichlids? like crenicichla regani but those need a very short range ofwaterconditions as ph .

Or i would remove all the fish you still have and go
erythinus eryhtinus
or remove them all and get a dwarf snakehead.

yeah really depends, i got one now that is amazingly agressive. Every time i put my finger near the tanks he shows up to jump out or immediately strike my finger when it touches the water. Its becoming quite scary aswell :)
This one eats out of my hand or tries to eat my hand . But a few years back i had 5 smaller ones and they didnt eat anything expect lifefood. That was really heartbreaking... they all died after a month or 2/3. I couldnt even get them in the big tank since they were to small and to hard to feed. I tried with lifefood for a long time but one after the other died of breaking its jaw due to eating a guppy or smashing it in the glass.

Eh dont really want to get rid of all my fish especially my Bichirs. I am thinking of getting a Ropefish or Delhezi along with African Butterfly Fish. Knife fish also sounds cool I will do more research on it .

skip the 65 save up for a 90... every tank is too small anyways may as well get one with a decent footprint, that way you dont end up buying 1 tank right after you realize how small a 65 is.

I am a student with limited space. 65 is the largest I can afford...

Look on Craig’s list. You’ll be surprised what can be had for cheap.
I kept 2 55’s and 29 while I was in college

the difference in tank prices is typically only a few hundred dollars- so maybe more patience would benefit you. Another month of savings you might get that larger tank.

i paid under 600 for complete 125 setup

just saying been there and 3 or even 4 tanks are very limiting

Well thing is I live in Turkey and no Craig's List here. Also since its a corrupted and poor country with bad economy "few hundred dollars" is like 2 months worth of money for me .
