Can I pit these fish in a 29 gallon aquarium?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Hey guys. A quick update for my 30g stocking. I'm going to be skipping the danios. And the Cory's need sand, so I'll be skipping them as well.

That leaves me with 3 platys, 8 to 10 neons, and 1 or 2 honey gouramis.

But I was wondering what would be a good bottom feeder. I'm kind of wanting something a little unique. I had the thought about a peacock or zigzag eel, but idk if that would work, and I didn't know how well one would get along with the neons.

So would 1 or 2 hillstream or kullhi loaches work? If not then what would be the best choice of bottom feeder for the tank?

Most bottom feeders do better with sand.
Hillstreams need high flow and low temps.
Look into neocardina shrimp - they are a little expensive but breed fast. They are very efficient cleaners, and don’t throw out waste like fish do.
With enough hiding spots none of your fish should bother them.

Thanks! I'll definitely look into them! What about a bristle nose pleco? I guess they need sand as well

Yes but make sure it is a bristlenose species.

I'll definitely do that. Back when I was 12 and had absolutely no fishkeeping experience. I had a common pleco in a 30g. He ended up getting to 1ft long and he lived for over 4 years, but he died on the move to a different state.

I really wished I got him a bigger tank, and took care of him better.

So I'll definitely make sure it's a bristle nose!

Obviously these levels are not great. What do I do? Should I add another bottle of safe start?

Also what is going on with my plants? I'm assuming that it has something to do with my ammonia

Whilst the ammonia and nitrite are high, that’s just from cycling. A much bigger concern for me would be the ph which is wayyyyyyyyy too high! Off the scale high.
check any stones you are using in there are not limestone just making the water like hard soup. Did you get them off a beach?
