Your FAVORITE aquarium fish and why

Polypterus endlicheri, even though mine did a suicide mission three days into having him. Ate like a crocodile ripping off bits of prawns. I’ll set up a dedicated tank for multiples one day but at $500 a pop where I live I have other projects to do first! It found its way out of the only hole in the aquarium lid. Still heartbroken lol.

I love red tailed giant gouramis but I can’t get one in Australia at the moment but I think when I finally do it could quickly get top spot. Look like amazing wet pets.

Australian natives are my passion at the moment, there’s a bunch high up but i could rattle on far to long about them.
Damn man. My sen did one of those but Luckily i found him in time. Love endlis. So expensive here though.
I've seen some RTGGs around but they aren't common
Aussie natives are epic. You a part of ANGFA?

Nothing beats a dojo loach for personality. Butt ugly looking things but my kids wanted some so I finally caved and bought a group.

They literally eat out of my kids’ hands, sit in their palms, love to get petted, and find themselves in all sorts of odd situations…sitting on top of breeder boxes, playing dead under rocks, floating head down at the top of the tank, purposely getting stuck to the sides of intakes, and of course willingly jumping into a fish net when I’m trying to catch a different fish.

Australia New Guinea fishes association. Fish club about natives. Locations are NSW, QLD, VIC and northern Australia.

They’re illegal in Australia. They’re causing an issue with irrigation down south. They get caught in the pumps.

I like and enjoy a lot of fish, but there are only two that every time I see them I want to bring them home with me: cardinal tetras and exodon tetras. I can't remember the last time I didn't have any cardinals somewhere around the house, and thanks to a member here I recently got a beautiful group of about 20 exodons that are thriving. The only other fish I feel like I must have one day is a Japanese dragon moray, but that's going to take a lot more preparation. I'd better get on that soon, though, or the eel will outlive me!

I forgot the 2nd part of the Q: I like cardinals b/c of the amazing combination of colors, both pigment (red) and iridescdent (blue). I like exodons for their constant activity, moderate size, and colorful appearance. I love moray eels for their body form, the dragon moray is the most gorgeous, the Japanese variety most colorful of all. Plus, this eel stays modest in size. The tesselata eel is a close 2nd for me, but it grows so much larger (I had to rehome one that grew too large for me to care for).

Compared to this weirdo I had, the dojo loach is quite a beautiful fish...Eel goby is probably the weirdest fish i had.

Dojos are the dumbest fish I’ve had. Found two in the sump today and we just lifted them out by hand and they just lay there limp. Plopped them back in the display and they went back to eating.

That eel goby looks cool…I could never seem to keep one alive but the last time I tried was over a decade ago. Haven’t seen them lately

dojo loach is a species that is quite difficult to find in Europe.
