It's interesting to think that in a few short years AI could be running in the background of this and every other board you frequent. The zillion incoming questions and topics answered and debated by multiple login identities chatting back and forth in way very similar to what we see now and it would have a limiting factor.

That limitation would be the rich tapestry of people and experiences that make this and many other boards up would be missing.

When the time comes very few of us are likely to know if we're chatting w/ an AI or we instead have a real 'dirt under the fingernails' respondent w/ real actual experience in the topic being discussed.

Interesting times we live in.

The question is, will it matter to you? My guess is that very few contributors know each other in which case the transition would be much simpler.

I'd like to think that "when the time comes" we will know full well who we are talking to.

After all, a "bot" or "AI", whatever, won't have that "dirt under the fingernails" experience so they will probably talk utter rubbish and can be removed by admin swiftly (see footnote). I don't think it'll be as simple as that though.

If these future bugs are as advanced as what many people think they're going to be, they will sponge masses of information from the web on all sorts of subjects and will be able to reply to any topic on any given forum, as if they are actual pros within that field. In that scenario, then yes, we'd never know who, or what we were corresponding with.

And if this was the case that they'd absorb and store info from the web, then they'd be in the same boat as us regarding what to believe among all the misinformation out there. So at least the humans and the bots would be on a level playing field in that respect, lol.

Regarding admin. I'd like to think that we have some form of anti bot devices or programmes in place on the forum, or whatever could deal with this type of stuff, I'm not sure how this type of thing works. But admin have been absent for a long time now. Are we currently wide open to an onslaught of high tech AI skullduggery!?

The mind boggles.

A.I. invading MFK will be the beginning of the A.I. apocalypse. :nilly:

Seriously and in the bigger picture, though, the philosophical implications seem varied and complicated. Artists, musicians, etc. are already having to deal with this reality-- at least those with some actual talent and creativity vs. the mass produced, low-talent, homogeneous, ersatz creations of autotune and song writing by committee.

I've already had an unpleasant epiphany here on MFK, when I questioned a statement made by a new "member" here. The information presented made no sense, but was offered up in very good grammatical style...an odd combination.

Someone on here...I sadly disremember who it was...gently took my digital hand and pointed out that I was likely debating with an AI-bot. I was flabbergasted! Since then I have noticed the same phenomenon on more than one occasion; it's always been a new member (obviously) who regurgitates some combination of "common wisdom"...which is often erroneous...in a bland but non-personal style that has no "personality".

I asked one such poster if anything they had stated was based upon actual experience with the subject matter, rather than simply Hoovered-up off the internet and then spit back out. No response was forthcoming.

That's now. With the exponential growth of technological wizardry and trickery, it won't be long before these nefarious bots are indistinguishable from actual idiots! Forget AI...we'll be dealing with SS, i.e. Synthetic Stupidity. These bots and AI's obviously have only one source of "information"...the internet itself, which has been so thoroughly seeded and saturated with complete nonsense by real living-and-breathing people who have no idea what they are talking about that most of the "info" the AI's glean is completely without value.

Synthetic Stupidity.

I think this is pertinent. What is called AI - Artificial Intelligence - is not intelligence, just merely some stupid computer program.

Yes, I seem to remember that post too. That did not disrail the whole forum.

It seems to be the social media and search engine giants who are developing the so called AI are also the most interested in scaring the world.

The future never seems to turn out the way we envisage anyway, so lets just continue and enjoy our fish and our forum.

It's already happening. They are all over social media like Twitter and Facebook. And it's super dangerous for the weak minded that only follows mainstream media. We are a fish forum that doesn't allow politics so we will be good

It's so fascinating to think about how AI could be integrated into social media platforms like MFK in the near future. Imagine all the questions and topics being answered and debated by multiple login identities, just like what we see now. But, you know what? The richness of this board and many others would be missing without the diverse people and their experiences. When that time comes, it'll be hard to distinguish between chatting with an AI or a real person with actual "dirt under the fingernails" knowledge.
Welcome aboard

Another scenario: multiple AI entering the forum and debating each other leading to topics with hundreds of posts over night full of repetition and weird responses.
