Help!. Please let me know if your Oscar got cured. My boy is facing the same with reddish patches on his pectoral fins base both the sides. Is it natural.. if not please lemme know what medicines I can use. Thanks in advance.
Meds are a temporary fix, so unless you get to the route cause HITH will continue to reinfect.
The cause in 99% of cases is high elevated nitrate, in poor water quality, in hard water.
And the real cure is doing a minimum of 100% water changes per week.
I do a 40% water change of the total tanks water every other day, and that works for me to keep HITH away

Thank you, will try this way..
Also, can you please tell me about that reddish patches on fins base.. is that also because of High nitrates or poor water quality?
!st off, what has your water change routine in the past?
It take time to cure HITH, sometimes months of frequent large scales water changes, to undo the already enfranched bacteria plaguing the oscars skin.
What is the Size of tank? (gallons)
@ how many gallons are normallly changed per each change
Are there other fish in the tank?
What are your water parameters? such as pH, and hardness in ppm (mg/L)

Before you start dumping meds, using an API tube kit, check ammonia, nitrite and mainly nitrates.
Tank size, water change schedule, and filtration. For Oscars, even when they are young I've always done large weekly 80% water changes to keep nitrates lower than 5-10ppm. Some do two 50% weekly water changes which is also good to do. Clean fresh water is the best medicine for a fish a majority of the time (depending on what's going on).

What you’re seeing in the fins is hemorrhagic septicemia which is a symptom from a bacterial or viral infection and can be fatal. I’d start with the others mentioned and see what your water parameters are to start. If you don’t have a kit at least take a sample to a local fish store for testing.
