Strange injury to goonch catfish

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I’ve just had a thought actually on the EUS when I purchased the perch my lfs wanted them gone quite badly as one of them has warts on them that I was assured are non contagious but after a quick Google apparently climbing perch are commonly known to carry EUS so I’m wondering if that could be the issue here the only confusing thing is I’ve had them for 4/5 months now and no other fish have shown any signs of EUS and I’ve had them in two different tanks since having them

I’m leaning toward it being an perch bite as I’ve noticed they’ve been quite aggressive when feeding today and when I’ve approached the glass and they probably have the most circular mouth but I just can’t quite figure out the smaller bore hole inside the wound as it’s almost eel or lamprey like in the way it’s a smaller crater inside of the initial circular wound
I have 5 climbing perch housed with slow moving eels and catfish and never had bit each other. Maybe the goonch injury is the same infection with those perch

I definitely think that’s the case as I’ve woke up this morning to find the ring around the wound is larger than it was yesterday which rules out a jaw mark so I’d imagine it’s some kind of necrosis or something so I’ve got him set up in a hospital tank with high oxygenation aquarium salts and some medicine I had floating around that supposedly treats bacterial infections, then this evening I’ll get him some fungal treatment as well just to cover all bases and hopefully I should start to see signs of recovery in the next few days IMG_8994.jpegIMG_8996.jpeg

yeah bite wounds usually close up on their own. Hope your goonch recovers well!
