World Record Bass Attempt Grow Thread

Working on getting some new pictures of the fish here soon for updates. Had a question though, been noticing that we have been losing several golden shiners here and there recently. Like every couple days noticing a dead fish or two. The fish look clean when we remove them, not noticing any visible diseases, and bellies look full, fins aren’t rotted or anything that we have seen. Done a little research and I think that spawning can cause mortality for golden shiners and I’m thinking that could be a cause. Any thoughts?

A full pond shot would be nice 🤷🏻‍♂️

Hard to tell but in the pond we have a complete anacharis takeover happening right now so we have to pull out some of that vegetation. It is completely overrunning the pond. Fish are doing well. Shiners are still dying here and there and they look healthy with nothing on them and full bellies so I'm scratching my head on that one. The larger bass are really fat and growing well. Hoping we get some good spawns of fatheads and shiners to keep things rolling. Bluegill will be introduced when the biggest bass reach 6 inches. I will try to get some pictures of the bass here within the next week via gopro footage.

I was going to say plants and heat will deplete oxygen but noticed you do have an air pump so who knows? Waters too warm maybe? Them hanging by the fall may indicate something.

Water is not that hot, only in the low 70s in the afternoons, so I'm not sure. I think if I had to guess it would be spawning stress. I assume they are probably spawning because the water temperature has been in the right range and I have read that they sometimes have fairly high mortality post spawn. Just weird cause they seem so healthy.

It’s a beautiful looking pond mate. I especially like the creek feature set up delivering water to the deep pool. Very serene. Did you do the build yourself or have it installed?

Thanks man, our family loves it. I started digging it several years ago by myself and then realized I was way in over my head with getting all the rocks and stuff, so we had a company come and they finished it for us, and it turned out brilliantly.

Sweet mate. I have been thinking about an outdoor pond for ages. We have an area where I need to mitigate runoff a sloped part of our property. Was thinking to dig a pond for aesthetics and water diversion as well 🤔
