I just got a nice 11'' ornate bichir, I'm keeping him a 75 gallon for the time being. I want to put him in a 2000 gallon outdoor pond but I fear I might never see him again, I've had some experience with bichirs before and all the ones i kept were either super skittish or just hid all the time. Anyone with more experience with bichirs please share your experience.

The ornate bichir will probably escape or be eaten from wildlife. I personally had 2 ornate bichir escape a 180gal in the basement unfortunately both died.

What drives them to escape? My pond has a red eared-slider, and she hasn't escaped (I know different principle, different animal) cause my pond is only filled 75% of the up so there's a 25cm barrier if that helps. And in terms of wildlife, my area doesn't get the usual predators, the main cause of concern are kingfishers but they don't target large fish.
