Back into the hobby, need stocking ideas

A planted tank with low maintenance plants and a nice hard scape with a singe/pair of a larger eartheater cichlid and a school of red eye tetras would be something I would do. Lots of activity and low maintenance, yet pleasing to the eye.

    Long fin Musky

Interesting mutations, I saw some “hammer smashed” bass before, but I also saw a picture of an albino pike found in a local river.

unofficial fish of the week artwork

Nice drawings! Have you ever done art classes or school before? I’ve found them to never help, but I was improving by myself.

    My Pac-Man frog

They are a pretty easy pet to take care of and cool to watch them eat, never too late to get one and only needs a 10 gallon.

    My Pac-Man frog

Had him for 2 or maybe 3 years. He tries to bite my hand infront of the glass sometimes, otherwise he only eats, poops, and makes a hole.

To me it looks like a tumor is growing, but I’m not positive.

Will otos eat decaying plant matter?

When I had mine, they would only eat algae. Depends on the tankmates, you could probably try cherry shrimps(if those are too small) or amano shrimps. Mollies might eat decaying plant matter and are excellent algae eaters especially hair algae.

How to make money in the aquarium hobby?

The only way to make true money, not a couple dollars, is to commit to breeding, making the hobby into a job may not be as fun. But you can make some money propagating and selling aquarium plants that are higher in demand to a local fish club or eBay.

Pike cichlid in a 40 gallon tank.

Crenicichla regani, likes to lurk and very personable, also territorial and mine liked a cave. They have big mouths so no small fish, if you don’t know if it’s big enough, don’t try as the fish may eat half of it if it’s just a little too big. You might be able to squeeze in an angel or 2 if the...

Could this become the beginning of the end to big box stores

Around me, so far I haven’t seen any closing. A few years ago a lfs moved to a new location because it’s bigger. The last true closing of a chain pet store was a nearby Petland almost 10 years ago, they had a 500 gallon+ tank on sale for a couple hundred dollars, sadly my parents said no.

Predator fish for a 10 gallon aquarium

In reality every fish that isn’t a herbivore is a predator of some sort. Small tetras would eat small fry or small bugs. I agree with the betta option and minnows, you could feed them live daphnia to watch them hunt.

    Carpfishing 2021!!!

I saw a carp(estimate 10lbs) went to eat my mepps spinner near shore when I was going for bass/pike in a river, when I was going to start reeling in the carp slowly my 10lb line snapped and the carp swam away. Yet weeks before a 15lb+ blue catfish went for my mepps but didn’t snap it, and...
