what about an fx5 with my emperor 400

thats what i have on my 150, no problems and clear. i added a good size power head to stir up dead spots an push most poop and wasted food to one side where i put the intake to fx5. as long as u are doing water changes u should be good, i do 1 or 2 a week at 20% and my 150 only has a fx5 an a emp 400

Set the tank up for the FX5, don't worry about HOBs or additional canisters. Unless you are planning on having more fish than water in the tank, an FX5 is more filtration than you need. You can easily add sponge filters or an additional cannister for redundancy later. People that talk about having three FX5s and a pair of AC110s filtering their 75G are the cancer that is killing monster fish keeping - it is totally unnecessary.

thank u for the help i will post pics of the 150 build thread soon

The FX5 with a Korilia powerhead to keep the Debris in the water column and the apropriate water changes will be fine.

As others have said, people overdue filtration in this hobby, BIG TIME!

Although tyou have a somewhat "dirty" group, your tank will not be overstocked as a lot of African Cichlid Enthusiasts tanks are, which need overfiltration, you will be fine..... Good Luck and can't wait to see the pics!:D

Burto is right, one FX5 should be plenty. I have a 220 with a bunch of big monster fish (aros, cks, lungfish, gar, etc). have two FX5s on it. One time, while cleaning, I left the valves closed on one of the filters. Fortunately the chip in the FX5 pump shut it off so it didn't burn out. I didn't notice for several weeks that the tank was only running on one, but the water was as clear as always.

I also have a 125 cichlid tank that runs off one FX5.
