Hello,

I got a $10.00 EBJD from the lfs, as the fish is thin and has cloudy eyes. It was a donation, but the manager wanted $10. He is about 4 inches and is very thin, but still has some life in him. I want to nurse him back to health, it is his second day in the tank and he won't accept pellets or feeders. Is there way to induce feeding? (in the case of pythons, force feeding is done for non-eating animals) Does this ever work with fish?

Any input would be appreciated.

Thank you

DO NOT FORCEFEED! the fish is sick and will let you know when it is healed by eating again. i'd isolate him, bump up the temperature and add salt, maybe even some melfax and just wait till you see a little improvement before you even try feeding.

Ya.. i'd say just let the fish heal up...

I wouldn't have brought him back home tho.. either free or nothing.. if it dies on you its a waste of 10bucks.. and EBJD can die at anytime without reason...

but good luck..

I would find a 10 gallon tank for him and have comfortable temperature and clean water.... MAYBE some medicine.....

good luck..

agreed....

EBJD's are difficult to bring back thats why the lfs didnt want all the hassle I isolated mine for a while and it just proved to be too far to bring back but the mom/pop store I deal with gave me store credit bc they like me so much, Im practically putting his kids through college with my spending in his store haha

Thank you everyone, I just saw him grab a small feeder. He seems to be doing better, but does anyone know what is causing his cloudy eye? While the rest of the eye seems clear, there appears to be a small white orb on top of his pupil...

He is a great fish, hope I can bring him back. Added salt and increased the temp...

Thank you for all your suggestions, will post updates.

BTW, he is currently in a 30 gallon, but I would like to put him in a 10 gallon by himself. How do I establish a cycled tank? I have a 10 gallon, heater, and filter... all is brand new. Do I need to cycle this tank before I can put him in there?

If so, what is the quickest method? Should I transfer gravel over from my established tank? What about water?

Thank you all
