I've heard mantis shrimps been called "cockroach of the sea", so they are pretty adaptive to water quality, CBS is a coral banded shrimp, if you get a smasher you could keep a damsel in there with him, if you ge a spearer some kind of crab (arrow crabs are pretty cool)

here is a site im sure you've seen but just in case http://www.ucmp.berkeley.edu/arthropoda/crustacea/malacostraca/eumalacostraca/royslist/

Thanks...I think I don't really dig CBS. Thanks for the information about tankmates...I haven't thought about that yet...

And yes I've seen that site :D

If I get a smasher, could I feed it snails that I find in rock pools and rock beaches?

ya you defiantly could just collect from the beach for food, i think crabs would make more interesting pray but would require a little more searching

Crabs won't be too hard to find...

looking at your name, I suspect you keep mantis shrimps?
*fingers crossed that you do!*

I mixed up the scientific names of the Thumbsplitter and the Peacock Mantis...

i was going to say...:D

i don't know any one who would describe O. scyllarus as 'black'

beach caught foods would be fine.. if you got a spearer you could probably net some "minnows" as well while you're there

if you're planning to add something to the tank other than the shrimp... dont put anything you'd be sad to lose
