So... a bit more experimenting today. I'm not holding much hope for todays additions but only time will tell..

Java moss added to the 3 'islands'. I worry the humidity and occasional rain drops will not be enough to stop them drying and dying.

And some salvinia. Which I'm sure would look amazing if allowed to spread over the surface. But I suspect they'll just end up as a silver dollar snack.

Are the silver dollars leaving the anubias alone?
Mike, thought you might be interested to know that the SD's have taken a liking to the roots of the Anubias Short & Sharp (which are quite green) - but seem to be leaving the roots of the Anubias Congensis alone (which are quite white).

The short and sharp are also browning on the tips of the leaves which makes me think they don't like the setup anyway.

STOCKING ADVICE

So... I've just purchased a pink tail chalceus. I'd guess 4 inches and a lovely example (only one in the lfs with both it's eyes or all scales and fins). I think he'll suit this setup nicely with nothing actually patrolling the surface at the moment and with so much going on above it for him to look at.

This brings me to:
1 Pink Tail Chalceus
1 blue Acara
6 Silver Dollars
3 Pictus Catfish

I've got 2 eheim 2217's giving 2000L/H. Even though the riparium is 6 foot long, i make the water volume to be around 250-275L.

What I'm getting at......... can I fit in another 3 or 4 Silver Dollars or do you think I'm fully stocked?

Imho you're full already with that water volume. Nice with the pink tail

So.. the pink tail has been disappointing so far. It's managed to damage some scales down one side and get a sore on its nose. It's scared of everything else and is sulking at the bottom of the tank. No intetest in food. Perhaps I just need to be patient?

On the up side, all the plants are doing very well. The java moss is still green and raising whilst the salvinia is spreading and not being eaten by the SDs.

I am not a fan of pink chalceus. In anything less than a group of 8-10 fish in a very big aquarium I have found them to be skittish, and their darting and thrashing spook their tankmates.
I had a group of 6 in a 146 gal 6' long tank with dim lighting and that didn't change their behavior.

I like the 3rd pic!

It's certainly upset the balance of the community so far. The silver dollars school side by side as close as anything, the acara missed the first feed ever since I've had him, and the pictus... well they're still crazy :)

I'll have patience and see what happens.
