PLANT UPDATE

So the all varieties of anubias are growing new leaves and roots every day. The java moss is spreading and rising into a dense carpet. I've never had the same great success below the water level - they are doing far better than I could have hoped for. In the coming months I'm hoping all three islands are dense with greenery!

The poor quality photos don't do it justice!

For stocking suggestions....

I'm now at:
6 Silver Dollars
3 Pictus Catfish
7 Columbian Red Fin Tetra (possible pictus dinner)

For a reminder... I've got 2 eheim 2217's giving 2000L/H. Even though the riparium is 6 foot long, i make the water volume to be around 250-275L.

Any other suggestions? Could I grow out an aro or is it simply not suitable? If possible, how long would a 6" Silver aro last before I had to upgrade? Or should I go with more SDs? If so, how many?

aro is not possible. If its really only around 300liters then i wouldnt keep sd in it.

Yeah I guess I was kidding myself with growing an aro out. Don't agree with the setup not being suitable for SDs though. 72"x16"x16" is more than ample in my opinion. I've not known SDs to use the height anywhere near as much as the length

I had 6 full grown SDs in a 100G once, filled to the brim. Still too small for them. They'd start bumping into glass at every opportunity.

PLANT UPDATE

So, tried my hand at some aquaponics today. Some yellow ivy. The hope is that it will cover the grid behind it and spread around the back of the 3 islands - bringing them all together to look like one land mass in the middle of the tank. Opinions?

6 WEEK PLANT UPDATE

So, aquaponics with the ivy didn't work out. It was just too humid with it being a closed system. But I'm happy to report that the java moss and various anubias are thriving in the riparium conditions. If the silver dollars aren't fed over 24 hours, out of protest they rip the odd leaf off to float. But otherwise, all good.
