Clown loaches would look nice or are you looking to get cichlids with the rope fish and bichir ? Cichlids good with that stock could be green Texas, rainbow cichlid, severum, firemouth and if female you have a better chance of less aggression

I would not do a knive with cichlids, at least thre roudy ones... you could keep BGK with peaceful cichlids like disscus and blood parrots...(blood parrots have small mouths...)
 
Here are some fish combo's I really like,

1-2Bichir,3-5 Ropefish and 6 Silver dollars
-----2-----
BGK, Silver Dollars and something peaceful that wont be fighting with them.

I can get a 18inch FL gar, what could go with it?

I would do #1 should be fine. Here the one thing I'd keep in mind silver dollars are some of the most skidish fish. So your tank should in a low traffic part of your house. My old SD's were constantly smacking the side of my tank every time I'd walk past it or turn on the light.

With that much decor ur stock is limited. U must keep fish that will still have room to move throughout the tank. Medium size cichlids, small school of sd. No gars, or knife fish

Well a gar and knife fish are still outta the question unless u stay with peaceful fish. Then you can get a african knife fish since they stay small.
