125 & 135gal stands

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
If you think that this stand isnt srong enough, then you dont know your wood work. Ive made a stand for a 180 and was built the same way as these and has been standing for 2yrs.

im just used to having kids and dogs running around
it just personaly looks to me that one good bump and the whole thing would wobble over

If the stand is properly secured to the wall it will be fine.

I personally like to build my stands with the base wider than the tank, it lowers the center of gravity.

But i would think that the plywood is plenty strong enough to hold the weight, i would be concerned about how top heavy the tank is though. Anchoring it to the wall would keep it from being jarred and tipping.

nice dude, those stands look great. when r u gonna start on ur.....is it a 300g tank? can't wait to see that monster getting set up man. i'm doin some diy of my own also, u might have to help me out man, hehe

Now that i have these done and out of the way, i have space to start on the 240. I just hope it doesnt take as long as these did

i know you dont want to hear it but i gotta say it,and it is a public forum.lol
those stands are scary.
are you using styro under the tank?
i have one that is built just like those but only a 90g and it scares me.
it is my weakest stand,i did not build it,bought the tank and stand.
i plan to make a new one.
built this way, theres no cross bracing and the plywood in between the 2x4s on mine are bowed down from no bracing.
i know your not going to change these stands, good luck hope they last forever, but please tell me you plan to use way more wood and bracing on the 240g stand.lol

dude heres a tip beef thoose stands up. ha some guy call up before at the place i work,(i build tanks). he put it on a diy cab. this was a 6x2.5x2.5. thing wasnt strong enough. whnthe boss delivered it he specifically asked him are you sure ur cab wll hold and dues like yeh. anyway 10 days later the(today) my tanks broken i want a refund. boss is like well ill go out on site and asses wats happened(our waranty only covers leakages not broke glass). anyway turns out no centre bracing and the ply dipped in the cntre causing the 12mm base to crack. boss is lik shame that was a nice tank to me told me one of the nicest hes built really proud of it to. worst part was according to the boss the dude had some awsome nice coals that all died as they wdidnt acclimate to a 4 foot. as it wasnt cycled.

I am familiar with wood working, and I think it would be a fine stand if you anchor it to the walls to prevent bowing etc. If you don't anchor it, I would just add two 2X4 crossbraces to the back. Stain them and the stand would still look very clean. Even though these should be fine, I would cross brace the next stands you make.

I was expecting a lot of people to say that, but the diy stands ive seen have been over done. They can probably hold up a car
