I was expecting a lot of people to say that, but the diy stands ive seen have been over done. They can probably hold up a car

You mean like this one? :)

I don't like any wobble at all, and you can't always attach it to a wall...

Yes, true.
I'm not sure how much weight is a 135 gal tank works out to be with all the other rocks added and sand/gravel and lights that you might add on top of that.
But if you think it can stand up to it, then OK.
It just seemed a bit light to me at first glance thats all.

But like it's been said, I dont know squat about building things, nor have I ever built an aquarium stand.
Just seemed a bit underpowered for being able to trust it for the new 20-30 years given the banging around and likely floor flooding problems that can always be a part of the unknown future of any aquarium owner.

But if it's good enough then thats that.

actually, i think a 125g tank already weigh about 1 ton (w/water of course). and a regular compact car is somewhere in the 1 ton rage, so yea, the stand should be able to hold up a car's weights if u have a big tank, o, btw, rexfish, i wasn't kidding about needing some help lol ^^

it looks like you used about 30 leg bolts there must have cost a pretty penny around here they are around 2 dollars each.

and as far as stand enginering goes id much rather be confident with a stand that can hold up a tank(the army kind) in a huricane then one that every time you hear a click or a creak in your house you **** your pants because you worry your tank is coming down(one gallon of water weights almost 8.5 pounds)

Thats bad that some of you guys dont trust your own work that you have to add more than necessary.

I don't think its that they dont "trust" their work, I think they are just being extra cautious. Nothing wrong with over building IMO.

Stands look good though! I love the stain color.

true.

From time to time I have to crawl under my car to do something, or to fix on a wheel.
I will jack the car up but I always block the car up too.
Now I have never had a car fall off a jack, and truth be told in all these years I bet that the jack alone would have kept the car up in the air just fine without my always feeling the need to block it up...

But when something is important to you it's not such a bad idea to make sure that nothing can ever go wrong.
Aquarium stands carry a lot of weight. They also can be great hideing spots for kids or pets in the unknown future too, and it's hard to predict the bumps and pushes they will have to stand up against as is the case in all aquariums.
Perhaps there is nothing to worry about with this design, I dont know.
I just had a gut feeling when I looked at the photos that a few more 2x4s might come in handy.

Wow, I knew things cost more in Canada, but $2.00 lag bolts! These are galvanized 3/8" x 4" lag bolts, they cost about $0.40 each or $125.00 for a case of 500. The stand is stronger than it needs to be, but not ridiculously so, in my opinion. I used this tank/stand in a classroom, so I wanted it to be really "bulletproof".
