125 gallon tank ideas

Yah my revised stock list will be
1 oscar
1 severum
1 smaller pleco like a rhino plec or green phantom or gold nugget
Then i will probably end up throwing in the electric blue acara or some denison barbs.
I will make sure to test often when they get large i will probably end up doing 2. 40 percent water changes a week
I think those barbs will end up as a snack for the Oscar, if you do the Oscar, sev, pleco and acara, add the acara and severum first and then the pleco and the Oscar last and make sure he’s smaller since Oscars grow so quickly.

I've heard and researched and saw they max at 10 inches half the size of a common pleco. I wouldn't want to go much smaller i would think an adult oscar would kill any pleco smaller than that?
I think a rhino pleco is fine, you just gotta do your maintenance according to your load, if you’re willing to put in the work, I say go for it

I have a rhino pleco and the last time I measured him he was at 9” or so and when he hits 10” without the tail he could be 12” in total, not a “smaller” pleco.

Thanks! And once again okay the rhino pleco is medium sized pleco but im sorry its not a giant. Its not a common or a sailfin or a royal. If I get a tiny plec like a zebra or a clown pleco. The oscar would kill it. Would it not?

I do not know if an oscar would kill a zebra or clown pleco, if anything I'd expect them to eat it. I'd say in my uneducated opinion once you get to 7" you should be safe. Maybe Ulu Ulu would know, perhaps Jexnell Jexnell , they both have kept oscars before. tcav88 tcav88 and mrrobxc mrrobxc also kept oscars if I remember correctly. Hopfully one of them can better help you than I.

Also sorry if my first post sounded a bit rude towards the end, it was not my intent.

I'm just saying yes an oscar is going to kill any pleco under 6 inches or eat them. He will still probably pick on a rhino imo. But at least the oscar won't be able to fit it in his mouth.

Sorry I just wanted to clarify how big a rhino pleco will get. It’s not a small pleco. And you are correct in thinking the Oscar will eat any fish it can fit in it’s mouth...or it will die trying.

I kept 4 10-11” astronotus crassipinnis with a couple 3-4” L600s for months no problem. It’s always a risk but mine never cared for them, not to say they all won’t eat em, just ime with 2 separate groups of crassipinnis they’ve never gone after any small plecos I’ve kept with them

Right now I keep my Oscar (12") with a 5" African mbuna/peacock hybrid, and a handfull of mollies and guppies.
The mollies and guppies slowly disappear, but the cichlids don't seem to fight. the hybrid is a real digger, as is the Oscar, and they are moving gravel every day.

I had a 8" sailfin pleco with him when he was about 7", and they fought a lot. I have various plecos with mixed and hybrid Africans, and they all fight around feeding times. The plecos fight with each other too. My 6" bristlenose harasses a 12" sailfin, and the 6" albino BNP does too.

Thats fair i just really don't want to take the risk of the oscar eating a pleco it would be one thing if he killed a pleco but a whole different thing if both fish died.. its not worth it to me.
