if you are choosing between the XP3 and another AC110, get the XP3.

If you fill up all three media trays, it holds probably close to 3 times the amount of media that the Aquaclear does.

don't get me wrong: I LOVE aquaclears.

but they are no canister :)

I agree, go with a can. And if you want even more media, the XP4 has a 4th basket in it.

why is the xp4 twice as much as the xp3? would just the xp3 be okay? how loud are canisters?

And I will get the Pacu something else when they out grow this.

Anyone want a free Pacu? or two? lol

The XP4 is new, the reason for the cost. As well as a larger motor I think, to push more water. As for loudness, cans are pretty quiet actually. I have my XP3 under my 75G and another one under my 55G, and with the doors closed, I can't hear either of them. And my 55G is sitting next to my bed. I can barely hear it at night, only because I'm sleeping so close to it. lol

I agree the first think i would do is throw the UGF right out the window, there is no need for them. Why do you insist on keeping them?

The xp3 is almost silent, sometimes i cannot hear it over the spray bar so that gives you an idea. I thought you said noise was not an issue?

Regardless of what you choice you defiantly need to get some more filtration on that tank, IMO a single AC110 could only filter a 55g lightly stocked tank, so your about 6-8x under filtered, and get a bigger tank for those Pacus or get rid of them.

they're 8" now and I'm sick of hearing people give me s*** about them. Would you rather I didnt buy them and let Walmart sell them to a 4 year old who will keep them in a .5 gallon goldfish bowl and starve it? 125 is luxury to a fish that has seen such conditions and I'm sick and tired of hearing people bit** about it. I cant sell something no body wants and if I tried to sell it to a LFS, I would only be repeating history for these fish and they would fall into the wrong hands and die.

The reason for keeping the UG is because my father insisted on it. I dont like them either. I left for 2 days and he went up to the house to find his 14 year old Tin Foil Barb dead, his 12 year old bala; dead, and my silver aro dead. all with no explanation. at the time, the only established tank was a 55 and the 125 didnt have a single accessory, with the exception of the UG plates. In stead of telling me my Aro was dead and he lost 2 fish that were very special to him, he went out and bought the powerheads, gravel, ac110, visitherm stealth(strange because he HATES heaters and is completely against them in general) and a digital thermomiter, and stayed up untill 4 in the morning working on it. He leaves for work at 5 every morning to drive an hour and a half to work a 12 hour day...every day. He lost a lot of sleep to make me happy, so they're staying.

What he did meant a lot for me and I wont let his hard work be thrown out the window because of someones personal preference.

I'll buy another AC110 for now I guess, but I need to buy my girlfriend a 55 complete set up soon because she was fooled into buying a few angels and kissing gourami's for her 20l.

I'm a lifeguard so I'm not exactly raking it in here. I'm trying to do my best and try to make a few fishes lives a little less miserable.

as far as sound goes, the wall is muffled and nothing can be head from the otherside, however the tanks in a "foyer" in the basement. The room which you first enter which either leads you to a laundry room, or theater room. It doesnt need to be super quiet but I never thought about a canister. I didnt know they were so quiet.

this is part of what you see when you reach the bottom of the stairs. its come a LONG way from start the finish. You cant tell theres a tank in the room.
