Haha, I appreciate the kind words; however Fat Homer Fat Homer is the guy you want to talk to lol, he's the one that got me into the shrimp game, haven't forgiven him since ;)

I may have influcenced you to do shrimp, but you are seriously tempting me to do a nano tank now...

^ heaters tend not to be needed in shrimp tanks unless temps drop below say 17'C - 18'C...

Over here for example, people like myself tend to worry more about the heat then the cold...

Also, if you want ideas for tank setup, check out the ADA aquascape contests, thats where i got a lot of inspiration for my tanks in the past...

Or even look up the GreenMachine in the UK, they have some good tutorials on how to setup a tank, just need to scale back everything in size to turn them into mini aquascapes...

Hmmm. Not sure how good guppies are with lower temps. I don't think I'll do shrimp alone.

^ Im sure he is!!!

But At the same time, the way i look at it now is i'm even with convict360 convict360 , since i got him into shrimps, so only fair he gets me into Nano's...

Depending on the shrimp species,

Sulawesi Shrimp tolerate the highest temps, but also require neutral to alkaline water (PH 8 is prefered if i remember correctly), and temps of around 28'C - 30'C (they actually cant stand cooler temps)

Red Cherries seem to tolerate up to around 28'C without too much problem, and of common ornamentals are probably most forgiving i've found...

Crystal Reds, King Kongs etc seem to prefer the cooler temps of around 18'C - max around 25'C and tend to be more picky about surroundings...

That is an awesome article, thanks for sharing.

Quick question, are shrimps generally okay with fancy guppies? I would like a tank with a lot of activity.

I'm already thinking black sand, black background, small piece of wood and maybe some small sea shells or cones that I have. Can't wait. And love that it won't cost an arm and a leg.

Oh, and since the tank is so small...do you not use a heater??

they'll be ok together, but what i'd maybe suggest is thinking about the sense of scale; in a nano tank, guppies will quickly ruin the immersion with their frantic swimming and size to tank ratio. I think you may be pleasantly surprised at how enjoyable a shrimp only tank is, but it could work out well for you with guppies too :)

I wouldn't use a heater for those two, my shrimp tanks sit around the 18-20 degree room temperature
