1300 Gallon Plywood Tank Build

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Is this monster tank sitting on a cement floor?

5" concrete slab with 2' x 2' rebar grid in it (I think, will have to review the pictures to be sure it wasn't 1' x 1') poured in July on compacted gravel. I spent a bit of time contemplating this and we decided that 5" should be sufficient. Note also that the tank is on concrete, but the adjoining great room has a basement below it, so the front wall of the tank is on a basement wall. If the tank slab were to settle that would be bad, but it is tied to the wall and everything was engineered to hold 20,000 lbs on that footprint, so hopefully we are in good shape. As for the great room floor, I am looking into a water proofing membrane, just in case. Note it is sunken 7.5 inches from the rest of the house and has a floor drain in the fish tank mechanical area (knock on wood).

The construction look great but I am having a hard time telling if there is support down the center of the tank? It looks like there was a board there that was marked for center support but I can't see it. We wouldn't want the bottom falling out!

the third stem wall down the center of the stand is there, I just didn't get any pictures before they started the tank portion.

Any Updates?
Sorry for the delays. I will try to get new photos and an update later this week. I am installing my own low voltage and a few other misc things throughout the house. All my spare time has gone to that effort so we can get to insulation and sheet rock. Should be winding down on that soon, then back to the tank. Any recommendations on the paint on liner products: Pond Armor, Blue Max, SweetWater ? Which one is the most durable?
