135g build out

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
thanks all, I'm going to be testing the pool coating from the depot in a small enclosure to see how it does if it works out that's what I'll use if not, I'll go with hydro ban as it's cheaper than pond armor and proven to be effective.

got the basic tank finished now it's just about sealing it, water testing it, making the stand and top, adding the pumbing, building the sump, adding the pumps and media, adding the lighting, making the tank pretty, moving it to the display area, and then cylcing it. lol

Just one question, You are going to seal it with the glass in?

plan to, I want to run the sealant over the inner edge of the glass.

so at a stopping point in the build until I've properly tested the local sealant before deciding on it or hydro ban.

this leads me back to the 125g tank sitting on the porch. I have a glass piece that is "mostly" 6x2' mostly being that it's missing a corner (which is why the 135g got disamantled and turned into the 450g rather than the 125g tank)

anyway the 125 has a backpiece of 72"x21"x 3/8" and I have a 72"x24"x 1/2" I want to fix it with.

do you think i should try and cut the 1/2" glass and do both an internal peice and external one? or would it be better to glue the 1/2" piece to the back of the broken panel on the 125g as it is?

I also have another smaller 3/8" peice of glass that measures 18" x 20" that i could try and repair it with. I just worry about structural integrity.

I would not glue the glass to the outside of the broken pane of glass, just because then you have the possibility of the interior glass fracturing more and broken glass getting into the water column.

So is the only problem with the 125g tank a broken corner? How big a piece is missing? Are there cracks radiating from the broken corner?

If the glass pane is relatively intact, you could probably just use the 18"x20" piece, and silicone it inside of the broken pane, covering any broken/cracked area's.

If you don't feel confident in that fix, then I would have the 1/2" glass cut, and replace the broken panel with the 1/2" piece cut to fit.

single crack along the back of the tank vertically, dead center. the top brace and bottom silicone held and the leak was minor.

I glued the 18"x20" piece of glass on the inside as he did in the video so he're hoping it works. I'll test the tank friday and then if it holds paint the back black to help it look better.

I think that should definitely work. How did you do the silicone, the same way he did in the video? Because you definitely want to make sure you siliconed the whole crack.

What about on the outside of the tank? Did you silicone the crack from the outside as well?

did the inside first and allowing that to dry, then I'll do the outside with a thin layer but that will mostly be to prevent you catching your finger on the crack, as the inside pane is the same thickness as the tank and will provide both structure and leak protection.

than I'll water test, paint the back and assemble the 135 g's setup using the 125g tank (thank goodness they're the same footprint otherwise I'd have a wasted stand and hood).
