14 Gallon Biocube Reef Tank with Updates

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Yeah, I'm going to definitely going to be getting more live rock in the coming weeks... It's just the live rock from the store is REALLY expensive... I think when I go to get some snails/hermit crabs/maybe an emerald crab; I'll hopefully pick up more live rock... It seems that the bumps on the fish are starting to go back down... HOPEFULLY, He will be okay, but I don't really want to jynx myself here

I would almost recommend taking the Goby back to the store and let your tank cycle. Cycling a SW tank is different from cycling a FW tank when you use LR. The point of getting LR is that it already comes with some of the bacteria on it that you need to start the cycle.

There is no such thing as recommended poundages of rock.

You need to do what you and your fish like in your aquarium.

That rule is for biological filtration, and honestly, its pretty stupid in my book.

Who says you NEED a certain amount of rock. More is always merrier, but dont crowd your tank. That is the best rule you will ever hear on the subject.

Yes, leave lots of space for swimming and circulation of water.

I would think 70 lbs in a 20 gallon would be too much unless the rock is very very dense(not a good thing).

Doesn't to-dense-of-rock just defeat the point of having the rock?

You want more porous rock if you can get it.

This is why its oftentimes more worthwhile to buy more expensive high-quality porous rock than dense, cheap rock.

The fish is still kickin... Losing the bumps all over his body... hes starting to look good again... But the weird thing is, He is always on the return pipe for the pump... I rarely see him go on the live rock or swim around... Is it just because it's the highest vantage point in the tank?

Usually they "hide" up there when there is aggression from someone else but that obviously isn't the case here.

I am surprised it would have taken a liking to that spot over rock but it is possible.

The only other thing I could think of is that there is something in the rocks that the goby doesn't like, like a crab or something that may attack him.
