14 Gallon Biocube Reef Tank with Updates

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
So Total snow: 18 inches
Snow Drifts on the Driveway: 5 feet

I'm going to get a Protein Skimmer eventually... I'm going to start off with Mushrooms, Zoanthids, and other soft corals... I do want to get a Small Acropora colony or other SPS corals... Before I get into those I will get a Protein skimmer and a UV Sterilizer

Here are some pictures I should've uploaded a while ago... Ones of Clown Goby were taken the night before he died... Then there are a couple hitchhikers

The sterilizer is going to kill a lot of free floating things in your h2o column that would ordinarily feed your corals.

That in itself is not a very big deal, because the vast majority of their needs you are going to need to personally meet yourself. However, I dont think it is worth the cash.

If you seriously want SPS in the tank, I wouldnt get shrooms.

At the very least, isolate them so it will be difficult for them to spread from rock to rock killing off everything they come in contact with.

As far as the snow goes, we were lucky up here...got spread out over about a week...decent amount every night, but nothing too major. Still hoping they end up closing the UW system for a furlough day. No work, yay! :D

I won't get a UV Sterilizer then.

Thats actually something I want to do... I want to get one rock of medium size and have it covered in mushrooms since I just think that that looks really cool... and I'm thinking about putting the rock in one of the front corners.

Yeah, Racine and Kenosha Counties got snow the worse in Wisconsin... Whenever they plowed the streets, they pushed 4 feet of snow back into the end of the driveways

Got my first corals today:

1 Red Mushroom Coral
3 Polyps of a Zoanthid coral (Saw it on a small piece of live rock at the LFS and I got it)

also got 3 Astrae Snails

Update on the tank:

Corals are still alive

I love the little polyps, they're a dark red with green centers

1 of the Astraea snails died, along with another cerith and nassarius snail

I added more rocks, it's starting to look pretty decent.

Still have a problem with algae going to probably add a Koralia Nano after my Grand Canyon Trip.

I still need another timer for the lights because I can't trust my mom to keep the lights on schedule

Will update pictures when I get time!

Well, a long awaited post... Everything is still alive and well... Still trying to get rid of the algae on the sides of the aquarium... Finally no more hair algae or Cyanobacteria

New Fish:
Six Line Wrasse

New Corals:
Small Hammer Coral
Small Candy Coral

Really loving the saltwater fish tank

Dang. The dinosaur tracks always blow my mind. Hard to think that they laid undisturbed long enough to become rock.
