a pump inside the pond with a pre-filter. the pump pumps up into a 5 gal buck or larger tote that has the mech filtration and bio balls. then have that gravity feed back into the pond.

the only problem with a canaister is that he has it sitting on the ground. I cant remember the height of the fx5 but they work of gravity feed. He said the tank is only 20" tall and water is only going to be half full I think.
Once the canister is primed, it shouldn't matter what level its sitting on, it can still draw water out of the aquarium. I had a cascade 700 sitting next to my turtle tank on the floor, with the water level only a total of 7" off the ground, and it worked just fine.
thats really cool im getting a 300 gallon stock tank for my turtles this summer it will be indoors in my base ment at the moment i have a 55 gallon for my turtles for my basking blatfor in the 55 gallon i have an old hand held shopping cart thingy with one of the sides cut out and flat rocks stacked on to and for the 300 gallon im going to put sinderblocks in it so they can climb out and bask im also gonna use a pond filter
well the thing is is that i dont really want to go out and spend 200 bucks on a canister.if i can diy it thatd be best..i just have NO experience in building filters.i still kinda am confused on how they work.i like the 5 gallon bucket idea.remember this will be sitting on the ground.so if you guys could help me figure out how to build it thatd be greatly appreciated
