I feed approximately every other day. Your turtles won't be able to damage the drylok.

By the way, if I didn't mention earlier... I recommend pool filter sand for turtle substrates.

how much is that sand?

For a 1.5" deep substrate in a 39x43 tank you'll need 3 50lb bags at $4-12 each. Sold at pool supply stores, call around.

Rinse 1-2 gallons of sand at a time in a 5 gallon bucket (you'll only have a total of about 10 gallons of sand, so it's not a really big ordeal) with a garden hose with no sprayer head (if there's one on there you'll ruin it guaranteed.) If you're adding it to a tank with livestock, warm the sand by rinsing with hot water first.

so it wont get stirred up and get in the filters and stuff? i have no experience with sand as substrate so thats why im asking

As long as you're using a canister, you're fine. The sand would have to get through your media to get to your impeller, and if that's happening, you've probably got bigger problems.
Also I've yet to have this kind of sand damage an impeller, even though I use it in a tank with a HOB.

Also, impellers aren't that expensive. Don't worry about it, and you DO NOT want to keep turtles with gravel, so its sand, big rocks or bare bottom. Big rocks get reeeaal dirty reeeaal fast.
