15 Days Without Food

Methylene blue is a awesome treatment for fish that are having problems with low oxygen levels and suffering from nitrite poisoning.

But if you put it in anything besides a hospital tank expect your bio filter to completely die of in less tnan 24hrs.

You really need to buy a good drop test kit and see what your params are.

you crazy, 90 degrees is too hot, and oxygen will be depleted.

Temp is back down to 80. I did the first WC (30%) today to bring the params back down to normal...no new meds. It will probably take a few more water changes to flush everything out.

I hope he'll start feeling better right away. Be patient. I know that's hard as you've worried yourself sick for 2 wks. He's probably glad he got out of that sauna lol

What are the params?

And if they are screwed up you should be doing a 50% water change at any time your test results are above .5ppm for ammonia or nitrite. It doesn't matter if its 5 times a day or once.

And to get him eating again you might want to offer live foods for a while so that it can heal up.

Well my flowerhorn still hasn't eaten. Feces is still white and cottony. I'm still freakin out. His energy levels seem to be up though which is promising.
I did another 30% WC today. All the meds should be completely flushed in a few more days.

Good advice on the feeders. I threw 10 little ones in there. Hopefully My flowerhorn will munch them soon.

Params are straight with daily water changes:
Ammonia = 0
Nitrite = 0
Nitrate = 0

To anyone else who has been through this...Please share some of your experiences. I have seen several posts on here where similar symptoms are displayed, but no one ever posts how the situation turns out.

If you have had a fish go through this (most likely a really bad case of Hexamita) let everyone know how things turned out, good or bad.

...and no, my Flowerhorn is still not eating.

Get an activated carbon to quickly get rid all the meds. I would not treat the fish anymore. Poor guy has been through the chemical reactions of these treatments and a lot of treatments kill fish faster than their health issues can. Make a gel food recipe with mostly protein based ingredients and add garlic (if you can stand the pungent smell) and praziquantel in the mix.

Yeah I should have packed the carbon in my canister filter already. Don't know why I didn't think about that.

I have to hold off though...maybe. The thing is that the feeders have given my flowerhorn a mild case of ich. Should I treat the ich first, or use the carbon?

Does the gel food typically influence sick fish to eat? My flowerhorn has a little interest in the feeders, but hasn't even tasted one. We're talking 18 days without a bite.

How long will praziquantel be needed? Isn't that just another "treatment"? I know that parasite clear has praziquantel as an active ingredient so he's already had quite a bit.

No water change yesterday, as the parameters were still perfect Zero's across the board.

As previously posted now ich has been thrown into the equation.
