15+ lb Potomac river snakehead

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Like I said some people (Spotfin) are hypocrites and biased. However I always wanted to go bowfishing for a trophy snakehead....and a trophy bowfin too. Got a 34lbs bigmouth buffalo other night by a bow but missed a nice big smallmouth buffalo and a big bowfin.

Ok, sure!
It's pointless to post anything else in this derailed thread. To smallguy, happy hunting!

What is the definition of an apex predator?

It is what it is and they are most probably here to stay. An apex predator is a predator that is top of the food chain for a given ecosystem. For the Potomac Snakeheads, Pickerel, and Largemouth are contenders for apex predators to the best of my knowledge.

Actually the northern snakehead dont come from aquariums, they were released by an Asian businessman for religious beliefs.

I heard/read it was because some one missed Snakeheads as a food fish. If I recall correctly there are many species that are established now, even the Giant Snakehead. There was a documentary about it.

There's no giant snakehead populations in United States. Only Northern Snakehead of Potomac River, Bullseye Snakehead of South Florida and Blotched Snakehead of Hawaii. None of them come from aquarium releases.

You forget the man, the giant catfishes and muskellunge.

Yeah blue catfish I would say is the top predator of the Potomac with fish up to 80 lbs being caught.

And not sure where the snakeheads tasting like dark meat of a chicken came from, the ones I ate is a white mild flacky fish. One of the best in freshwater

And there is a small population of snakeheads in Philadelphia also

Nice catch, where was the general location where you were fishing?
