1500 gal fbg tank, new setup for my monsters!!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Im running a drip system as well so that will aid in any extra filtration that may be needed. Also the im not adding a bunch of massive fish. Two are 2 ft the rest are smaller. Total of 18 fish with 4 being t.s. sd and 5 polys that are 12" to 14" and x3 plecos L014 L024 L025 that are 8" - 10" each one. Not looking on adding much more just want to have enuf room for them to swim around. Im using x2 of those filters plus drip at 2 gals/hr. I too have never dealt with such a big tank so we will all learn together.
I’ve never dealt with such a massive tank before but my 225g is filtered by a 75g sump and I still think I could use an Ultima for additional filtration. I would definitely consider adding more filtration and turn over but I have no idea what your stocking it with.

I agree about the extra turnover and filtration, I’m not sure 2 gal an hour is going to be nearly enough to offset the bio load. I’m running a gallon an hour through my 220 and it’s just enough to keep up with my bio. The tank is looking sick though I’m definitely looking forward to seeing it running. It’s going to be a lot of fun cycling that beast. What’s your plan for seeding it.

Well consider this...im running x2 15k liter/hr pumps granted they are pushing water up over 6 ft in the air which should be ample for the size filters im running. Each filter has 4 full bags of lava rock suspended above the drains just like a typically wet and dry filter. Each filter is 38" × 14" footprint. I have the same fish atm in a 600 gal with two fx6 running it and an ocean clear canister w/ uv. 40%+/- water changes weekly with ro water. The same fish are going into a tank almost x3 the size of their present one with alot more bio filtration then what is being used now. If i do 2 gal hr over a 30 day/24hr period that just about turns the tank over x1 month. I'm seeding it with some really stinky ass filter floss that is currently being colonized in the two canisters. Once im ready to move them over im transfering all their current water, dw and one of the fx6 for the mean time to help keep it stable as possible.

I’ve ran 2 fx6 on my 120g in addition of a 40g sump. I hope you don’t take offense to my comments I’m a filtration nut. Honestly I would run 4-5 times the filtration you mentioned. I would consider getting 2 55g barrel and link 2 2” PVC/Bulhead inbetween to relay the filtration load it up with k1 maybe increase your drip to 3g-4gph

No offense my man. I appreciate the input! Im gonna see how it goes. Filling it as we speak so i can get the filter running and test it out.

So rude but I like the way you think. A small UV would be nice too.

I have one of the filters going and its pretty strong on its own. Once i add the 2nd one I'll be good to go. I used what thw pump comes with. 2" intakes with 1.5" input lines to the filter. So far so good. As its filling i have it ar 60% cap for the pump. Its doing alot just at that speed. As well as the auto swap filling the tank as well. Im at 50% full gonna go to about 70% to where i want to be and use the aquarium water to fill the rest.
