1500 gallon pond build and recommendations on heating it?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
im planning on water proofing it all with a fiberglass coat on everything and then a blue pool paint that will be yet another sealer still will not be happy untill the thing is full and running with no leaks for a whyle! i was thinking of getting it up and running next week to cycle, would there be any problems that you would see with throwing a few hundred feeders in there to start bio? let me know.

update, the forms are off and the excitement gets greater. everything that i need to put it all together is here and ready and the concrete is finally done outside the tank. i also have been thinking of adding a step to the front so little kids can look in and taking the forms off displayed a spot where the concrete did not settle well and made for an ugly spot. this equates to adding a step for sure now. i have to finish creating the corners inside, the corners inside then a super strong fiberglass concrete sealant and paint i should have it going. also i have a 55 for sale that is one of the pics and another pic is of a backer board piece where i will put the step now.

Exellent progress! could u just use a trowel and more cement to smooth the front surface? or itd be cool if u put some rocks on the front for a bit of deco. Def like the step idea, it should also help to hold that front wall up. It looks a tad thin in that one spot, could just be the pic tho.

hello all who are watching, it has been a few hard days but i have everything all prep d for the fiberglass coat possibly tonight or tomorrow am. cant wait. here is the latest pics, the first one is inside the tank. i sealed all the cracks with a spray on rubberized coating that the fiberglass will paint right over and it will be an additional barrier for the pressure in the joints.

now all fiberglass up and ready for paint on Sunday. i did not realize because i intended on having it up and running by now, how much time things needed to harden and cure. for instance, the fiberglass said that i can not paint it for 72 to 96 hours and then wait a full 7 days before filling it with water, looks like next wed is the water day! here is a few pics of the steps and the fiberglass paint on two coats.

Great build! Make sure you let everything cure right. Let it sit a few extra days if you have to. Doesn't look that hard or expensive to do.

thanks i shall let it sit a few extra days, there is a few spots needing touch up so i will attend to them first. as badly as i want to move the fish in now, i will only build this thing once and some of those big cats a to priceless to me to rush anything. coupple of the redtails are 5-8 years old, they have survived everything that long i would hate to mess it up.
