1500 gallon pond build and recommendations on heating it?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Awesome build! This is very similar to what my wife and I have been talking about doing once we sell our house and buy a new one. This is definitely a build we are watching like hawks. Did you think about viewing panels when you designed this?

i did think of windows in it but the cost was crippling to my budget on this one. i was trying to keep it under 200 now less then five i think i have done pretty good. for the right thickness i calculated threw many other posts here on MFK, the proper thickness was 1.5" acrylic(around the same as glass. i priced it out and anything cut to size and it made the price climb a bit, BUT if you ordered a full sheet of 1.5" acrylic i found a acrylic place that would sell the full sheet at 450 bucks witch is a great deal for a 4x8 i believe it was. i would have to do a little looking for you to find it again. but when ever you should like i will certainly do so. my recommendations for you and your wife is to make sure that you make the forms strong and buy everything needed as you can it makes the wallet a little happier. the paint that i used was under 50 bucks and a lot of the other materials were cheep as well but all added up. the sil pro and the form materials were the pricey part. as soon as you get the place i would love to give you some pointers. by then we all will know if mine holds water or not!

all painted with the second coat and one week from today the can claims i can fill it with water!! Cant wait. im going to start running everything on tue!! pumps air lights sand them water!

hi all this killer project is on hold for a while now sadly :( my two star 24+ inch catfish died unexpectedly. the others that i have are smaller and happy where they are so i decided i would put in a water fall in the back in there memory of my big guys. the pumps for that will be at least another week so this is why im putting it on hold for now. getting right back into it as soon as i recoup from the loss and get all the supply. it was a bad dose of feeders from a different source that i never have used before. i had the tank all under control with normal water perimeters and everything when it happened. :'(

Sad about the cats bro, you can look forward to growing out some new beasts though! The pic of your daughter in the pond is amazing :D

here we go, the waterfall stuff came in EARLY! that just never happens. after two nights of words i would never want my children to repeat i built a beautiful field stone water fall in the back corner. now tonight i am filling. about 90% full, no leaks except a joint in the plumbing that will be a easy tighten and done. hope tomorrow is the same here is some awesome pics! oh and im exactly five hours in to filling it now
