150G Tank Setup

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
How about column style weir on one end and build decor around it to conceal. Use the other one as a return with a check valve in the line to prevent backflow.
I was bored so I drew a pic, lol. We used to do these as commercial setups at doctors offices, etc. We'd set them up as peninsula style tanks. I'm not sure how the second hole is arranged at the one end, but we used to use those as a wire chase up through to a canopy so it could free stand away from a wall so you wouldn't see plumbing or wires. We'd run it right up through the overflow column. Or you could use as an emergency overflow, second return, etc.

These holes are not really line up with each other. I found a picture online look very close to what i have. 2 on one side close to each other and one on the other side. Very weird design.

What the bulkheads in the picture were likely used for were intake(s) and outlet(s) for a closed loop circulation, perhaps? That's fairly common in custom reef tanks, and not weird at all. What's odd is that the owner had drilled holes for that, but didn't have an internal overflow/weir with bulkheads closer to the sides of the tank to set-up drains.

That design look neat. I will take that under consideration. 2 hole close to each other for the drain. And the other one for return. Im thinking 40g wet dry sump with 1000gph return pump

If you are building it yourself and not keeping plants in the sump, just build a 40g canister. It will give you better flow with a smaller pump. A better setup for the fish and $ in the long run.

But closeloop is for something like canister filter. Im considering doing sump

But are sumps are more reliable and better results than canister??

This is not entirely accurate. You can use a canister I suppose, but closed loop is typically used with a pump inline. I have a sump, but also have clc for additional circulation. The pump at the bottom of the picture is taking in water and back to the tank.

Sumps are far superior to canisters in pretty much every way...more water volume, can hold more filter media, highly customizable, hides heaters and other equipment, easy to access and maintain...ect.ect.ect...

How can i use a sump for close loop system? i hate looking at my tank with all the accessories Intake, Return, Heaters in the tank. i trying to find the way to hide all that by using sump. im currently using 2 canisters filter but looks like it is not enough for my stocks. that's why im considering sump with powerful pump for better coverage. i will post my design according to your design and see your opinion on that

Have you considered running a stand pipe to the surface? You can cut teeth into it for an overflow, and if your a creative aquascaper, you can probably hide it
