You could build a rock pile around an overflow compartment with a a standpipe in it. That way the middle holes could be functional but the plumbing would be totally hidden in the rocks.

The tanks at Rainforest cafe in Orlando have the same idea.

I need space in the middle of the tank. So I decided im going to run the pvc along the side of the tank and paint the black. Thank you for the suggestion though.
