180 gallon pearsei and aureus

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Agree with Buddha that 180g is good for a pair. Some may say it's the minimum for a pair. I had a young adult pair and a V. argentea in a 220g and they made the tank look small.

Takes about two years for them to be fully grown, at which point they would become more aggressive.

Yeah decided a pair would be best as per buddhas experiances. Are suggesting that it is to much to keep a pair with the thorichthys and a argentea? Because I thought buddha said the thorichthys would be ok because they are small and fast (I assume the pearsei wouldent even see them as a threat or compitition). And then he also said they would be ok with other tank mates as long as they weren't the biggest guys in the tank. I might be reading his posts wrong though.

Oh and dmd I read that it is a really good read that combined with the tank of the year winner a few years ago is what turned me onto these guys in the first place. The tank that had pearsei with cutteri and argentea... with the 3d background..... man that tank was sick.

I think Thorichthys would be a better choice. Size/bioload is one thing. V. argentea can actually be quite aggressive. Mine constantly stalked the H. pearsei and drove them nuts.

I have heard of that before.... so you think a pair of each is best. And no to the argentea. I have plans to set up plenty of spots for the thorichthys to hide in like an area around a foot and half square of med. Sized rocks providing caves and what not for them. I think it looks really cool when there is a place that is kind of a spot for a smaller fish and I try to do that in all my tanks.. for instance I Have a 125 with a pair of thorichthys meekii and an adult female jag, adult male black belt, a sub adult bocourti and a sub adult friedrichsthallei. And its a really cool tank to watch... difrent sizes and aggresion levels yet it works very well. I fell like when I swatch it none see another as direct compitition. But this could change when the bocourti and freddy age.

Sounds like a lovely tank!

Only thing I don't like about H. pearsei is their veggie diet. Mine ate half a romaine lettuce a day.....lots of wastes......yikes.

Mine are on a diet of kens veggie flakes, romain, cucmber, and peas. They also getkens tropical flakes.

I hope you guys don't mind me jumping in here, but you got me thinking... do you think a large oscar, bocourti and a pearsei could work in a 125 gallon together? Is there a cat and some dither that you would say could go in there with them?

-Rich

I have kept bocourti, oscars, and pearsi all in the same tank, although a 125 would get small fast.
